Wisdom teeth removed?

I have to have my impacted wisdom teeth removed. I have heard when the teeth have already popped out it is like a 3 day recovery to feel normal agian but with impacted it hurts and is alot worse. I can get an appointment to remove mine july 16 but i am going out of town july 20. Will i feel fine to go on vacation after just 3 1/2 days or should i wait till i get back for a later appt?

Wisdom teeth removed?
Hum, personally I would probably wait because I had impacted wisdom teeth and I was held up for about a full week. It happened so long ago that I don't fully remember if it was like 5 days or more but definitely not 3. Honestly it just depends and it's really hard to say because everyone is different. My face swelled up pretty big and I could only open my mouth/jaw about a half inch. Not too much pain, I just slept a lot. I truly hope your experience is much different than mine!! Good luck!
Reply:usually it's OK. especially if you are young, it will recover sooner, but be sure no smoking and spirit drinks for at least 24 hours
Reply:it depends on how well you heal. I was ok after 4 days but some ppl it takes longer start feeling better.
Reply:I was ok after 3 1/2 days, but a friend took a week (she was a bit of wimp too). You wll probably be ok, but you won't be able to eat a lot of foods - you'll be on a soft food/liquid diet for a little while after having them removed.

If you are unsure, just try to schedule it for when you will return from vacation so you can completely enjoy yourself on your trip!
Reply:Wait! I say that simply because you cannot predict how you will feel. Everyone's experience is different, so you cannot compare a friends experience to one you have never had. It is best to WAIT until you have the time to recover. Otherwise you risk having a painful, miserable vacation.
Reply:oh you poor thing! I know just how you feel! I had an infected tooth one time and it was HORRIBLE! I ended up having to put the root canal off due to an already planned family vacation. We had 2 different sides of the family meeting in one spot and I had to have teeth problems!!

I've had all 4 out before %26amp; I was scared to death. My husband told me he was eating pizza the same day he had his out and knowing him he most likely was!

I was pretty doped up the day it happened and hardly remember that. But yes I think a few days afterwards I handled it ok. I was doped up with pain pills and I ate mushed up food for well over a week. We had a food chopped that was from like Blacken Decker and just put our supper in it and mashed it up for me. We made babyfood with it too. lol

So if you are not in pain and think you can handle it I'd put it off. But if I remember the pain before they came out I'd suggest go and have it done. Also talk to your dr about your plans and follow his advise.

Now some hard truth. My mother in law had an awful time when she had hers out. She was well into her 50's and didn't do well at all. My sister who was in hear early 20's like I was when I had mine done ended up reacting to the meds that put her to sleep and the meds for pain. So she was VERY sick. Then she had what is called a dry socket I think that got infected. She was a mess.

So as you can see it depends on the person.

Here's my suggestions:

1. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she says.

2. If you have it done be sure to take your meds, dentist phone number with you and also a the name and number of a dentist who is in the same area of where you are saying. Ask your dentist to recommend one. Maybe even call the one near your hotel and talk to them if you want.

3. Get a food chopper. Here is a link to the one we had. We loved it and it will help you eat afterwards. I lived on chopped spaghetti and mac %26amp; cheese for awhile.

4. Try not to over do it if you do have your wisdom teeth out. I went to Disney World while recovering from a very bad stomach flu and really had to pace myself or I would get over tired and feel worse. So take it easy.

Good luck!!! I know this is a pain to have to deal with this when you are suppose to be having fun. I've been there!
Reply:I got married a week after having mine out. I felt OK. Of course everyone is different. Are you going to fly out? Sometimes flying makes a difference after dental surgery. But othere than checking about flying, you should feel just fine.

I am sure you will have a great vacation.
Reply:I would give yourself 1 week so that your surgeon can see you postoperatively. If something goes wrong, you may have a tough ime finding someone. Of course, there should be an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the area if you should have a problem. Ask your surgeon for advice. Hopefully you are having surgery by a board-certified OMS.
