Wisdom teeth?

I looked in the mirror and saw two bumps underneath my tounge. Is it my wisdom teeth coming out? it weird cause it UNDERNEATH my tounge is this normal for an impacted wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth?
A friend had something like that....turned out to be a boney bump.....several of them. I forget the name, but she got them removed without too much problem. I think it''s fairly common.
Reply:You need to see a dentist immediately! They may make your teeth really crooked
Reply:no not wisdom teeth..probbly chancer sores
Reply:teeth tend to come along the gum area

who knows your a vampire see a dentist

p.s do you burn in sunlight
Reply:Your wisdom teeth will come out behind your other teeth, not underneath your tongue. The area might feel sensitive, especially when you apply pressure to it.

If the bumps are sensitive, growing and not going away, see a doctor or a dentist.
Reply:*Normally* they line up with the rest of your teeth and are right behind the last molars you currently have. My sister's teeth were impacted, but that meant they were coming in at an angle, pushing against the last molars.
Reply:impacted wisdom teeth are normal.... i got mine taken out a few years ago. I would point it out to your dentist and ortho. U might have to get them pulled. I had 5 wisdom teeth and they were all impacted.

Wisdom teeth trouble.. plz help?
go see your friend's dentist.
Reply:Hi, I'm a dentist.

What should you do? Follow the instructions your orthodontist gave you to begin with: have your wisdom teeth extracted, ASAP. You may have pericoronitis, an infection in the gums around the wisdom tooth.

I have seen many patients for whom I recommend removal of all 4 wisdom teeth by age 14, so it is not that uncommon.

Good luck.

Wisdom teeth removed?

I have to have my impacted wisdom teeth removed. I have heard when the teeth have already popped out it is like a 3 day recovery to feel normal agian but with impacted it hurts and is alot worse. I can get an appointment to remove mine july 16 but i am going out of town july 20. Will i feel fine to go on vacation after just 3 1/2 days or should i wait till i get back for a later appt?

Wisdom teeth removed?
Hum, personally I would probably wait because I had impacted wisdom teeth and I was held up for about a full week. It happened so long ago that I don't fully remember if it was like 5 days or more but definitely not 3. Honestly it just depends and it's really hard to say because everyone is different. My face swelled up pretty big and I could only open my mouth/jaw about a half inch. Not too much pain, I just slept a lot. I truly hope your experience is much different than mine!! Good luck!
Reply:usually it's OK. especially if you are young, it will recover sooner, but be sure no smoking and spirit drinks for at least 24 hours
Reply:it depends on how well you heal. I was ok after 4 days but some ppl it takes longer start feeling better.
Reply:I was ok after 3 1/2 days, but a friend took a week (she was a bit of wimp too). You wll probably be ok, but you won't be able to eat a lot of foods - you'll be on a soft food/liquid diet for a little while after having them removed.

If you are unsure, just try to schedule it for when you will return from vacation so you can completely enjoy yourself on your trip!
Reply:Wait! I say that simply because you cannot predict how you will feel. Everyone's experience is different, so you cannot compare a friends experience to one you have never had. It is best to WAIT until you have the time to recover. Otherwise you risk having a painful, miserable vacation.
Reply:oh you poor thing! I know just how you feel! I had an infected tooth one time and it was HORRIBLE! I ended up having to put the root canal off due to an already planned family vacation. We had 2 different sides of the family meeting in one spot and I had to have teeth problems!!

I've had all 4 out before %26amp; I was scared to death. My husband told me he was eating pizza the same day he had his out and knowing him he most likely was!

I was pretty doped up the day it happened and hardly remember that. But yes I think a few days afterwards I handled it ok. I was doped up with pain pills and I ate mushed up food for well over a week. We had a food chopped that was from like Blacken Decker and just put our supper in it and mashed it up for me. We made babyfood with it too. lol

So if you are not in pain and think you can handle it I'd put it off. But if I remember the pain before they came out I'd suggest go and have it done. Also talk to your dr about your plans and follow his advise.

Now some hard truth. My mother in law had an awful time when she had hers out. She was well into her 50's and didn't do well at all. My sister who was in hear early 20's like I was when I had mine done ended up reacting to the meds that put her to sleep and the meds for pain. So she was VERY sick. Then she had what is called a dry socket I think that got infected. She was a mess.

So as you can see it depends on the person.

Here's my suggestions:

1. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she says.

2. If you have it done be sure to take your meds, dentist phone number with you and also a the name and number of a dentist who is in the same area of where you are saying. Ask your dentist to recommend one. Maybe even call the one near your hotel and talk to them if you want.

3. Get a food chopper. Here is a link to the one we had. We loved it and it will help you eat afterwards. I lived on chopped spaghetti and mac %26amp; cheese for awhile.

4. Try not to over do it if you do have your wisdom teeth out. I went to Disney World while recovering from a very bad stomach flu and really had to pace myself or I would get over tired and feel worse. So take it easy.

Good luck!!! I know this is a pain to have to deal with this when you are suppose to be having fun. I've been there!
Reply:I got married a week after having mine out. I felt OK. Of course everyone is different. Are you going to fly out? Sometimes flying makes a difference after dental surgery. But othere than checking about flying, you should feel just fine.

I am sure you will have a great vacation.
Reply:I would give yourself 1 week so that your surgeon can see you postoperatively. If something goes wrong, you may have a tough ime finding someone. Of course, there should be an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the area if you should have a problem. Ask your surgeon for advice. Hopefully you are having surgery by a board-certified OMS.

Without going to a dentist, is there any way to tell if my wisdom teeth are impacted?

I am going to the dentist as soon as my insurance kicks in. But that could be a while and for now I am really wondering.

Without going to a dentist, is there any way to tell if my wisdom teeth are impacted?
There really is no way of knowing without going to a dentist. A simple xray is all it takes to find out though. Good luck and I hope your insurance kicks in soon.

Wisdom Teeth and another tooth?

Will a dentist remove all four at one time? I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth (I am 33) I have put it off long enough. I also have another tooth that is "behind" my molars, the last dentist who filled a cavity in that tooth said that he wouldn't remove it cause it was somehow connected to my sinuses? Now I don't think they have a choice cause the tooth is gone up to the gum line. But will a dentist get rid of all 5 teeth at once? And if so would a dentist only give me a shot of Novocaine or put me to sleep?

Wisdom Teeth and another tooth?
I don't know about that fifth one, but I got all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out yesterday actually, and I had IV sedation for it. If you ask me, that's the only way to go because you remember absolutley nothing, feel nothing, and have no idea it even happened afterwards. As for a few hours after the surgery, it starts to hurt but you get pain meds.
Reply:If you go to an Oral Suregon, they can put you to sleep and remove all 5 teeth at once for you.
Reply:Tooth removals are pretty gnarley because they get it out down to the deep root. I did this operation and I got the Novocaine. Felt like having my mouth open wide and focusing on staying calm as hands and tools went in and out of my mouth back to the wisdom teeth. I got mine removed one at a time on the bottom jaw. Dentitst are probably smart so they can assume ones heal ratio.

Wisdom teeth!?

i went to the dentist today and i found out that i have 4 impacted wisdom teeth. i am 18 by the way. i need all of the wisdom teeth removed, but the dental office said that my insurance does not cover any cost for the removal procedure. they said that i would have to pay 2500 to remove the 4 wisdom teeth. i have access dental healthy families by the way....i just dont believe that they dont cover any of the costs....please help me....what am i suppose to do?

Wisdom teeth!?
I would call your insurance company. My oral surgeon said that they wouldnt cover it, but when we called the insurance company, they said as long as the teeth were IMPACTED FULLY and the surgeon said the procedure was medically important, they covered it 100% in the end. Call them and ask.
Reply:They won't cover any of it??

There is a customer service phone number on the back of the card. You need to call it and find out if they will cover it or not.
Reply:why would you want to remove them all? are they growing in the wrong direction? you will need them when you get old:)

Abscessed tooth or wisdom teeth coming in?

I know my wisdom teeth are impacted, and I have a consultation booked in 2 months for removal. But for the past 3 or 4 days, the spot where the top right wisdom should be has been absolutely KILLING me! I take 4 Advil at a time, and it doesn't do much. It's inturrupting my sleep and I'm just in SEVERE pain. Today it feels a lot better, but I still have a little pain and a lot of pressure. Plus this morning when I woke up my gum area was really swollen and was leaking a little puss. Can this happen from an impacted wisdom tooth trying to break thru under my back molar, or is it an abscess?

Abscessed tooth or wisdom teeth coming in?
Maybe its an infection caused by a little food getting caught and becoming bacteria.Make sure you keep the area clean.. Gargeling with peroxide is good. Directions on bottle. Sometimes sucking on a 'clove' , the spice, can help deaden the pain. Can't you have your appointment moved up? Call your dentist in case they have cancellations. Another thing, they will not remove a tooth if you have an infection. They will have you take an antibiotic first till it clears up, then they will remove it. So call and maybe they will call an antibiotic in for you to your pharmacy or you can pick up the script from the dentist office.

Tooth sensitivity after Wisdom Teeth Removal?

I got all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed 3.5 weeks ago. When I bite down slightly, my four back teeth are still a bit sensitive, especially the bottom ones. I can even feel it be slightly sensitive if I scrape off food on the surface of the tooth on the bottom left. Is this normal?

I just figured since my teeth were impacted and the surgery was difficulty that the teeth just need time for the roots to be settled again. Is this the case? HELP!

Tooth sensitivity after Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Yes, you are right, there are so many nerves there it takes a good 4 to 6 weeks for some people to heal and not feel any more pain. Everyone is different.

You should try take regualr low dose analgesia, something you are not allergic to of course. At night, try something a little stronger so you can sleep.

When you eat, try to eat softer foods or just drink some healthy shakes or smoothies til it all settles.

You can buy some soothing gels from the chemist or supermarket, but read the directions on them as some contain blood thinner as a main ingrediant and can promote bleeding of the gum. Just askt he Pharmacist for advice, it is free and there to use :)
Reply:Shouldn't you ask the dentist that took out your teeth ???
Reply:i had all 4 of mine removed as well. just like you said they are a little over sensitive a while after surgery. with time i think the sensitivity decreased. for me, i noticed that after my extraction that if metal touched my teeth, they would almost sting. but that went a way too.

HEART ARRYMTHMIA and BAD WISDOM TEETH?

just wondering if anyone else out there with a cracked, bad, or impacted wisdom tooth/teeth is having problems with the spped of they're heart... ive been completely healthy all my life up until only two things that i can think of that mightve had an effect on the speed of my heart quickening... and thats a recently broken and bad wisdom tooth or taking overdoses of mega vitamins.. im hoping its the wisdom tooth because i have heard or seen some things online that say bad wisdom teeth can be linked to heart arrythmias,, ( and this can be fixed by getting it taken out) but the vitamin overdoses that i think i took for a good 1 and a half to 2 years would probably be permanent... just wondering if anyone else out there with bad wisdom teeth are having any of the same effects that im having with my heart.. im thinking SINUS ARRHYTMIA sinuses are right above wisdom..ofcourse NO DOCTOR has the answers for me...doctors rarely about your health they're just overpaid drug/pill pushers..

HEART ARRYMTHMIA and BAD WISDOM TEETH?
Infected teeth and infection somewhere else in the body will effect the heart rate. I suffered for years with head, facial, neck pain that gave me high blood pressure and a fast heart rate. My heart even became enlarged on one side..from the infection and stress. Dental x rays did not show the abcesses *they claimed*. I could not determine exactly what the pain was from because the abcesses were under capped teeth...finally an honest dental hygenist told me they knew that! Finally after 2 root canals on one tooth I complained enough the dentist agreed to pull that tooth. BINGO..blood pressure dropped and heart rate slowed...from there each tooth I had pulled helped the pain. Obviously there was a connection between the pain, infection and blood pressure and heart rate. Dentist won't tell you because they are trained to save every tooth...no matter the expense, and even against the patients wishes! One even told me it was considered mal-practice if they did not do a root canal before pulling a tooth! I had researched root canals, knew it left bacteria and could even be the cause of fibromyalgia...which drs said I also had. I even had a memo from my doctor to NOT do a root canal on me. $800.00 later and a root canal I was still in pain etc... Dentist make lots of money dragging it out! Finally with all my teeth out I am in pretty darn good shape, my neck is doing great, and I've heard nothing else about fibromyalgia!
Reply:actually it could be from your thyroid or a disease that would cause the thyroid to act up. the wisdom teeth theory is false, however, it they are bad or impacted you should have them removed if they are causing you pain.

the endocrine society has changed its values so more people with thyroid disease will be approved for medication instead of fighting the doctors. Anything above 3.0 (tsh) should be on medication.

The other issue is if you eat soy based foods or take vitamins with alot of soy in it (this includes tofu, soy sauce ect) it can effect the thyroid as it does mimic hormones similiar to your own.

But it can make the heart to a few hoolah hoops! It's a scarey feeling too...I've been there!

Good luck!

Wisdom teeth extraction caused me to have numb, tingly sensation in lower lip and chin?

I just had four impacted wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning around 10 am. It is now 5 pm the next day and I am experiencing a tingly/numb sensation in the right half of my lower lip and chin. It feels huge, like it was injected with Novocaine.

I read up on this and discovered that this is due to the inferior alveolar valve being injured. It could take weeks, months, or even YEARS to heal? My follow up visit isn't until next Tuesday, I don't know if I should call up my oral surgeon and bring this to his immediate attention, or just wait it out and see? A few websites said that the tingling sensation is a good sign that feeling will return soon?

If you have any advice or personal experience stories you could share with me, that would greatly help. I've already visited every single website on this topic that the world wide web can offer, haha. Thank you.

Wisdom teeth extraction caused me to have numb, tingly sensation in lower lip and chin?
I had my wisdom teeth done last Thursday - and my tongue is still numbish/tingly also. my right jaw and lip were completely numb the whole day/nite after the procedure but by the next morning they were normal but my tongue is still this way. i have a follow-up appointment tomorrow. I have probably visited every site that you have! I am an internet junkie when something is ailing me!! haha! From everyone that i've talked to - it is most likely nerve damage. I've read it's very rare for it to actually stay numb FOREVER - but it COULD take at least a year to completely go back to normal. I feel your pain - it is so aggravating... I hope it gets better soon!!
Reply:no, they will heal like in 2 or 3 days depending on how many wisdom teeth. i had them pulled off and it just kills you. its hard to eat food with that, but be patient for 2 or 3 days for it to heal.
Reply:Be patient before you panic about having serious nerve damage or whatever- they use a lot of local anaesthetic in your mouth when they remove your wisdom teeth, so it takes a few days to completely wear off. I had mine removed on Friday and it didn't completely wear off until yesterday (Monday), so it took around 4 days for me.

The tingling was just the feeling coming back in my case.

Hope it wears off soon!
Reply:I had all 4 removed some years ago under a general anaesthetic. I was a wreck for a good week and was on soft foods and warm drinks for about 3 weeks. When you go back to the dentist get them to show you the size of the root on a wisdom tooth.

Ring the dentist's tomorrow to make sure, but I think you'll be fine. Just load up on ibuprofen and go back to bed till you feel human again.
Reply:I would have to say even one wisdom tooth being extracted would be hard enough now all 4 is the pits. If i were you I would expect some lag in feeling and tingling. The sensations your feeling are your muscles and tooth roots coming back to a relaxed state after the ordeal they went Through. Just relax and let it heal.. hope this helps

Wisdom teeth impaction removale?

i am getting my impacted wisdom teeth removed in three days!! i dont honestly know if it is the right thing i went to my dentist and told him i had some pain in my wisdom teeth and asked if he could see them coming in on my xray he said he seen them hust starting to form so how can he tell there impacted? he said he would send me to an oral surgen to have him look at them then when he filled out my refural he wrote wisdom teeth extraction now they made me an appointment for a dentist to pull them out with no consoultation i have never met them b4? so i dont know what to expect can some one pls tell me bc my wisdom teeth are not even through the gums yet. will they put me under? god i hope so i hate metal on my teeth just having my teeth filled drives me nuts some one please give me info about what to expect and i will be put to sleep

Wisdom teeth impaction removale?
Let me start out by saying that I am deathly afraid of the dentist. However the pain of a broken tooth drove me to her office for relief. Little did I now that the broken tooth was my wisdom tooth and they were all in various stages of eruption; not to mention impacted. I too was referred to an oral surgeon, who then made an appointment for removal.

This past Friday, all four of my wisdom teeth were removed while I was asleep. I was talking the surgeon and the next thing I know they were waking me up and telling me that it was over. Since Friday, I have been swollen and a little sore, but it is not as bad as I could have imagined. Actually, my biggest problem is that I am hungry, because I can only eat soft food (oatmeal, soup, jello, etc.). It was not bad at all and they gave me great drugs too!!!
Reply:They can tell from the angle if they are impacted. Sooner will be far less painful than later.
Reply:Most oral surgeons will put you to sleep with an IV drip. Don't worry, it's a tiny prick, not unlike someone pinching you. You will be giving Novocaine during the surgery so your won't feel it when you wake up and heavy pain medication to take yourself afterwards. The first hour after surgery is the toughest time, hands down. Your mouth will bleed, you have to change gauze, you won't feel like eating even though you're starving, and you may be nauseous. (If you or a relative has been put under and you vomited a lot, tell your surgeon.)

If you aren't being put to sleep, relax as much as you possibly can. Most dentists' offices offer laughing gas and pure oxygen. Breathe deeply and fully fill your lungs up before the surgery. You will get high off oxygen! Bring relaxing music in with a pair of headphones and a CD player.

Wisdom Teeth...Difference between normal and impacted? (Difference in removing them?)?

If your wisdom teeth are "normal" do they take them out differently then if they are "impacted"? If they are impacted will you get put to sleep? (Or can they still take them out while you are awake?)

Wisdom Teeth...Difference between normal and impacted? (Difference in removing them?)?
No, either impacted or erupted they can be removed by your dentist or an oral surgeon. Your dentist will make you as comfortable as possible with local anesthetic and N20. The oral surgeon will also anesthetize you and put you to sleep.

"Impacted" only means that the tooth is unable to erupt naturally do to it's position, laying side ways or slanted.

"Normal" would be in the correct position, but the dentist wants them removed because of the potential problem they present; difficult to keep clean, possible decay, crowding or just not enough room, these are all good examples of why they need extracting.

Hope I've been of some help and good luck with which ever way you choose to go with your extractions.
Reply:Normal wisdom teeth are just like other teeth they have a normal root etc, impacted wisdom teeth are usually grown into the jaw or have roots that are going in different directions. Normally with impactions they either put you under or give you a sedative.
Reply:Impacted means that they are growing sideways... the top of the tooth is facing your lips. Depending on how impacted they are will determine if they need to put you out or not.

Good Luck!

P.S. you're gonna be kinda chipmonkey and yellow from the bruising... but don't fret, it will go away in a few days

All of my wisdom teeth are impacted and are being taken out, what is the step by step procedure?

With the anesthesia and everything please? Does it hurt a lot?

All of my wisdom teeth are impacted and are being taken out, what is the step by step procedure?
1- take radiographs to locate the tooth

2- anaesthesia "most probably General Anaesthesia if all or most teeth are being pulled out at a time"

3- an incision is made to uncover the tooth

4- if there is bone around it, it should be removed by a device similar to that used to remove decay but slightly bigger.

5- the tooth can be removed in one or more pieces. Sometimes, the dentist has to cut it and remove it in 2-3 pieces. This depends on the location and angulation of the tooth

5- sharp bones are rounded using a bone file, then the incision is sutured to close the flap

There might be pain after anaesthesia is gone, but pain killers should reduce it. also, there might be swelling for a few days.

Pain and swelling depends on how aggressive the procedure was which depends on:

1- the dentist experience

2- location and angulation of the tooth

3- age and general health of the patient

4- shape and length of roots

The dentist should give you instructions to reduce postoperative complications such as:

1- no spitting no rinsing no sucking on a straw in the first day

2- no hot food in the first day

3- take rest

4- ice pads in the first day only

detailed instructions should be given by the dentist..
Reply:It wasn't even that bad, just hurt for a while after. But they didn't swell and I AM NOT PLANNING ON ANESTHESIA EVER AGAIN IT SUCKED lol Report It

Reply:They are probably gonna knock you out for this with IV sedation, just a shot in the arm and you are out like a minute later, they go in your mouth, cut out all of the impacted wisdom teeth, stitch you up and send you home, you won't remember anything about the whole ordeal, And it will only hurt afterwards, but not too bad, they will give you painkillers for that. I was eating pizza the day after I had mine cut out, so its not that bad. But every person is different. Just try not to spit or suck on anything for the first day or so, doing this could result in getting drysocket, which from what I hear is VERY painful.
Reply:No it doesn't hurt. You go to an oral surgeon. he knocks you out which anesthesia and you wake up with stitches in your mouth. A few days after surgery your face may swell a little and you cant really eat much more than soup, but the pain isn't bad. Just like = to having period cramps level of pain. I only took advil, I didn't need anything stronger for the pain. And I ate soup for several days and took a once a day multivitamin since I wasn't eating much. It isn't a big deal to get them taken out. I had 5 impacted wisdom teeth (i had an extra tooth, usually people only have 4 wisdom teeth, i had 5).

my cat

Four of my wisdom teeth are impacted and needed to be removed next month. I feel like passing out already?

I have a phobia of pain. and I am dreadfully serious. Three of them are 100% horizontal towards the front of my mouth. One of them is 100% horizontal inward.

I would rather die, than to have the pain. Do you have any advice for me, as to eliminate the pain to the best of my ability? ok I reaally want to pass out now =[

P.S. BTW, what kind of anesthesia I should use? do I need naughing gas? Will I be completely out during the process? Gosh I dont wanna hear the drilling. I'll end up killing the dentist LOL

Reply:umm talk to the person who is doing this procedure. i'm no life coach but you might have to suck it up. i have no pain tolerance and i get surgury so i think you can make it.

You count down from 10...by the time you reach 5...

You wake up in the waiting room with no memory of any procedure...and you're a little woozy...and it feels like you have your cheeks stuffed with cotton...

No worries...It's painless...

(And they give you Codeine if you need it later...but I didn't...)

A little pain never bothers me...
Reply:well first off, you should be put under if your not comfortable hearing the drill. I get put under while getting my 4 wisdom teeth out and i so would have rather done that them be awake for the whole thing.

As far as the pain, you could try taking pain killers like advil or tylenol or something like that. you also could put ice on your cheeks to numb the pain a bit. Other than that i am not sure of anything else you could do. sorry
Reply:I had to have all of mine removed. My appointment was for 815 in the morning, I arrived they gave me 2 pills, stuck an IV in me and gassed me. I woke up at 1700 with no memory. The pills for the pain the provided were great and when i ran out and they still hurt the doc was more than willing to give me more.
Reply:They'll use gas, in all probability. I had all of mine removed that way and never felt a thing. I hate pain too but this is truly painless. Remind the Dentist or Surgeon that you're afraid of pain and they'll take care of you. Just have someone to take you home after it's over. They won't let you drive! Good luck!
Reply:HAHA RELAX!

I got 4 of my wisdom teeth AND a tooth that didn't grow out properly in the front out. They weren't like normal ones though, all five teeth were BURIED in my gums. They had to cut the gums open, pull the teeth out, and sew my gums back together.

I was worried too, I went home and cried.

It was even called "day surgery", so it freaked me out.

ANYWAYS, the day of the operation, I stepped into the room and there were about 4 people waiting. They asked me if I wanted an IV (which is like a needle that stabs into your arm and puts you asleep) or the gas. I said the gas, because I'm terrified of needles. I fell asleep fairly quickly, and when I woke up, it was completely painless.

Although I couldn't open my mouth for a week...

and I had to eat my mom's stew for a week...

BLEH.

It's really okay, nothing to worry about! You'll be completely asleep during the operation.
Reply:shop around to find the best dentist ask questions to patience in the office and its laughing gas= nitrous oxide sweet dreams
Reply:You'll be out like a light. I don't even remember falling asleep when I had mine pulled. The pain is not too bad. They will give you pain medicine that is really strong. Make sure to take these. It hurts the most after the first day, but it is not too bad. I had to have them cut out since they had not grown in yet. The older you are, the more painful it is. Just remember that you can always take the meds to make the pain go away.

I wish you the best of luck and the least amount of pain. You'll be fine.
Reply:There is really nothing to it. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth too, and i had them all removed at once. Make sure you are put completely out for the procedure. They will give you a prescription for painkillers before you have the surgery. Make sure you fill it before you have the teeth out. I found that the pain was more like a dull ache when it was all over.
Reply:If they are impacted they will completely knock you out for the removal so don't worry you won't hear or feel a thing and when you wake up you will be shocked that it is already over. Then they will give you pain medicine and as long as you follow their after care and don't so things like drink through a straw and swish things around in your mouth then your mouth should heal quickly. Our mouthes heal faster then almost any other part of our body. So don't worry. The procedure will be far better then the pain I am sure you are feeling now worrying about it. And you will not need to decide what anesthesia you need the doctor will decide. You just need to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Good luck
Reply:When I had mine out the put me into 'twilight sleep'. I don't remember a thing about it. After, there won't be much real pain, just an ache. Plus, if you have a good oral surgeon(NOT dentist), then you'll get great pain meds. If there's real pain, call the office for advice. As your mouth heals, it'll itch more than anything else.
Reply:I had all 4 of mine removed at the same time and thankfully I was asleep ( they put me to sleep with an IV ) the whole time.... And the best part was once it was done I started feeling soooooooooo much better..... Good Luck
Reply:My doc gave me a prescription for a Valium to take about an hour before the surgery to keep me calm. I ended up having just novacaine for 2 impacted teeth (he had to cut into the gum to get 1) but I didn't feel anything. The teeth came out with no problems. He also gave me an antibiotic and some lortabs for the post-numbness pain. It only lasted for a few days. Trust me, you would much rather deal with a few days pain from having them removed than weeks of pain because food got trapped under the gum and caused a serious infection in the jaw. You'll be fine, there's nothing to be scared of.
Reply:Have you talked with the oral surgeon who will be pulling the teeth? I'm getting my four wisdom teeth pulled next month and believe me, I'm not looking forward to it. I met with an oral surgeon last month and he gave me three choices, to one, have an IV to put me to sleep (yes and IV includes pain but you would be put to sleep), two, laughing gas which just loosens you up and makes you feel good, or three, just get it all numbed. I'd suggest the laughing gas for you because that doesn't hurt and would probably keep you from caring about the pain or drilling. Good luck! :)
Reply:You should be completely knocked out for the procedure. I am sorry to say though that there will be pain. It is different for everyone though some worse than others (mine sucked). I know people that it didn't bother though. If you smoke don't after surgery or you will get a dry socket and that hurts worse than anything. I made that mistake. The bright side is you will get good pain medication to help. Good luck hope all goes well.
Reply:Aww you'll be fine!

I got four adult teeth pulled while i was fully alert. I heard the popping and all that good stuff.

You'll be asleep and won't feel a thing. I know that for a fact- because oral surgeons aren't allowed to leave their patients awake for something like a widsom teeth removal.

Don't worry about a thing. They'll give you medicane to dull the pain.
Reply:I was completely put out under anesthesia. My workplace covered 80% of the procedure with my dental insurance. It was totally worth it for me.
Reply:Is it paining now? Are afraid of the later? It does not pain that much. They inject next to the teeth and numb the area and part of the tongue and then remove the teeth with pliers or prise it out with a lever like thing. You can hear and feel the crunch of it coming out. It's not painful but the knowledge causes anxiety. After the teeth are removed they tell you to have ice cream after half an hour. Think ice cream. That's your mantra. It'll get you through.

If my wisdom teeth are NOT IMPACTED but partially protruded...?

Will they have to break my jaw bone to get them out.

I can see all four of my wisdom teeth.

But the bottom ones hurt for atleast a week each month.

Plus I want braces and have no room at the bottom to get my teeth straighten.

Also how does it feel after you go home from surgury. What is the pain like? Is it worse than the wisdom teeth growing?

Can you tell I'm nervous!!! :)

If my wisdom teeth are NOT IMPACTED but partially protruded...?
No, youre OK%26gt;
Reply:wisdom teeth if there is no room for them will only push on the other teeth to make room (you thought your teeth are crocked now)- -- my wisdom teeth were not impacted and they were pulled

the only reason they would break the jaw is if the roots were wrapped around the jawbone. They can see that on an x-ray -- but since your teeth are still below the gum line you will probably need oral surgery to have them removed

my sister had that done and she everything was fine
Reply:They don't break your jaw to take your wisdom teeth out. if they are impacted they crack the tooth. If your wisdom teeth are straight it is a simple procedure and a quick recovery. If they are crooked or impacted they may put you under and the recovery may be a little harder but they will give you pain meds. They usually don't take wisdom teeth out until you are about 18 depending if they have come in or not. Its not a big deal.
Reply:I had two wisdom teeth pulled out and two cut out. I was nervous about the surgery too. But when I woke up from surgery I felt nothing, just extremely tired. I walked out of the office with a little help from my dad. Got home slept like forever. I only used one pain pill the doctor gave me, but then I ended up throwing it up because I had swallowed a lot of blood. I never used another pain pill and never threw up again. I was in no pain for some reason. But, every bodies pain level is different. You will be alright.
Reply:if they are only partially through the gum tissue, and not impacted, no you won't have to break your jaw to get them out.

just because they aren't all the way through the gums doesn't necessarily mean that they are under bone. If they are underneath the bone, which may be the case, they will just drill the bone away and take them out.

the only reason they would break your jaw bone is if you have a serious underbite. and this has nothing to do with your wisdom teeth.

you will need the wisdom teeth out before braces though and it's good to get them out anyways when they're partially impacted because #1 the tissue that is still covering the tooth can become infected and get food under it and have problems = pain, #2 the preassure the other teeth are putting on them can be very uncomfortable if there isn't room for them. #3 they can develop cists around the teeth under the gum tissue...these are painfull and will need to be surgically removed.

so for all of these reasons it is better to get them out as soon as you can. it's not a bad procedure. you're only acctually in the chair for about 10 mins. but you'll probably be put under. good luck....and one other thing, when you're done and home...do ice on 20mins and heat on 20 mins....go back and forth as needed this really helps

Is is worth having an impacted wisdom tooth removed?

I have an impacted wisdom tooth which is infected and seems to have a split or tear in the gum for ages. I have been taking antibiotics and pain killers for a while now. The dentist will recomend me to hospital for removal. But would like to know more about people's own experiences. thanks.

Is is worth having an impacted wisdom tooth removed?
Get it done and the pain will be gone
Reply:At this point it would seem you have no choice. The infection can spread to other tissue. The pain will not go away until the offending tooth is removed. Being impacted means it is still in the gum, but angled at a way that removal by a dentist is out of the question. It must be surgically removed. It isn't hard to go through, they rarely cause any trouble once removed. the gum and tissue surrounding it will be sore, but, once the infection source is gone, it will heal and your troubles will be over.
Reply:You are going to base your treatment plans and health choices on a bunch of answers to a poll here at YA??? You have a tooth that is impacted and infected, which requires you to live on antibiotics and painkillers. And you wonder if you should have it removed? As opposed to what, just dying from the massive systemic infection that already is building in you? For pete's sake, this isn't a way to live. Antibiotics and pain killers are only meant to be temporary solutions, until you can arrange to have the permanent solution to take care of the problem. You can't take them forever, you know. Eventually you will get ill enough that it will all be a moot point anyway. Then the surgery will take place in the worst possible conditions and you will suffer for a lot longer than is necessary. Just go have it removed for heaven's sake. Then you get to return to a normal life. If you put it off, it's not going to get any better, and instead of just having the one tooth removed, you could find yourself loosing all your teeth. Dentures are expensive and they aren't that attractive. Just go get the darned thing out. The longer you procrastinate the uglier it's all going to get. No choice here, not really.
Reply:The potential pain of leaving it FAR exceeds the potential pain of removing it!!!!!!!!!

The fear of the surgery is waaaaaaay worse than the surgery itself, especially if you are going to the hospital for your work. You will be so out of it.

After surgery, put and ice pack on your cheek over the surgically treated area for an hour and a half, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off. This SIGNIFICANTLY reduces post-operative discomfort, bruising and swelling. Make sure you ice.

Beyond that, follow closely all of your doctor's post-operative instructions. They are there for very good reasons.

If you suffer pain you can easily accommodate after surgery, it is normal. If you suffer excruciating pain, call your dentist right away. Excruciating pain is highly manageable but you cannot do it by yourself.
Reply:Hi

You are not alone I too have an impacted wisdom tooth that is infected, but I cant wait to get it gone hehe. Apparantley it will be sore once removed and you may get swelling of the face, but like one of your answers has already said once that pain has gone and tooth gone it will never hurt you again!

We all have to go through things in life we dont want!

And you know the saying no gain without pain lol.

Also I only have 10 bottom teeth remaining and have to have them all out eventually so just one wisdom tooth aint too bad!

Good Luck.

Don't think there are any alternatives as to keeping it and why would you want to keep something that rotten lol, your not cap'n jack sparrow are you lol.
Reply:only a good dentist can tell you what to do here, but Ive had a dentist tell me to leave them in if not casuing trouble, and other times had to get it out due to trouble with infection. So trust you r dentist I would say Oh yeah it wasn't that bad , make sure you get an script for a painkiller and get it filled beofre you get home or have someone get it for you even if you dont think you will need it. Follow all the instructions exactly for post op recovery-don not eat or drink anything they tell you not to -no mouth swishing or smoking etc(can dislodge the clot)You'll get through it.
Reply:I don't think there is an alternative to removing it. If it's causing this much pain, and is infected like this, really your only option is removal. Once it's gone you'll feel much better though so look to the upside.

What does it mean if your wisdom teeth are "impacted"?

I just asked a simliar question to this but now im curious what it means since mine are impacted.

What does it mean if your wisdom teeth are "impacted"?
There are different catagories fo impacted:

Partial impaction means that the teeth are partially surrounded by bone, not just the roots but the top of the tooth.

Completely impacted teeth are completely covered (surrounded) by bone.

Completely impacted teeth can have complications as well, such as the roots being very close or crossing over the mandibular nerve and this would be catigorized as completely boney with complications in dental terms.
Reply:It means that they will not be able to grow from your gums like all your other teeth did. They will need to be surgically removed.
Reply:It means they never came out of the gum.
Reply:It means they haven't erupted and need to be extracted surgically.
Reply:sorry if I answer the same as someone else, but I hope this helps:

it means that they are only 1/2 way out of the gum line

my dentist made me go to an oral surgeon %26amp; have them pulled out
Reply:Its like a seed unable to germinate because of a thick and strong surface or because of being too cramped up for space.
Reply:"Impacted" means they are pointing in the wrong direction and bumping up against another tooth (generally) so they can't grow into your mouth. HuskyMom has given you a good description of various kinds of impactions.

Root left in gum after impacted wisdom tooth extraction...a problem??

I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted today, but the dentist decided to cut the tooth in half and leave the root in as she was having difficultly extracting the whole tooth, (i was under local anesthesia).

Could any health problems occur, i.e. infection, pain...due to the fact that my root is still in my gum?

prob not
Reply:Yes you could get infection %26amp; you will have some pain anytimean impaction is done. IT may work on out in months or yrs to come or you can go to an oral surgeon %26amp; let him get the rest of the tooth%26gt; Doc W

My impacted wisdom tooth has an abscess, at first it would cause swelling. It hasnt bothered me for months now. Being not to eager to have it ripped out of my gum I am wondering if it is going to be ok, I have a up coming dentist visit soon, I'm sure he will be for having it removed..

I have an impacted wisdom tooth that has an abscess. It hasn't given me problems for months, does it still n
Besides getting infected, which can cause lots of nasty secondary effects, an impacted wisdom tooth can push the rest of your teeth out of alignment.

Your dentist will x-ray it and tell you what he thinks. He's seen this kind of thing before, I'm sure. Impacted wisdom teeth are very common! If you trust him, listen to what he says and what he recommends. If not, then find another dentist.
Reply:Oh my goodness. When is that appointment? - the sooner, the better. You have been very lucky to not have been bothered by it for months. What you need to think about is the infection spreading. This could be very bad.

It sounds like you will have the wisdom tooth removed - most people do have wisdom teeth removed. It is not too bad, especially when you receive the local anesthetic. I wouldn't doubt that you will be given a prescription for an antibiotic as well.

If your appointment is more than a week out, you might want to call and see if the Dr. can squeeze you in sooner to get that taken care of.

Good luck.
Reply:Yes, get it out.. I had the same issue for over a year, thinking that hey, if it doesn't hurt, leave it alone... WRONG... the infection in the abscess was the culprit to my sinus infections and other aches and pains from the neck up.. once it was out, everything went away, duh... Can't believe it took me so long! Don't wait! good luck.

Which is more painful extracting impacted wisdom tooth or having a braces?

Im comparing which is painful extracting impacted (level 3) wisdom tooth or having a metal braces. I tried root canal (removing 4 roots) and i compared that extracting impacted wisdom tooth is very painful. I will have braces this week and would like to know which one is painful.

Which is more painful extracting impacted wisdom tooth or having a braces?
I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed at once and it was definatly more painful than getting braces... braces really don't hurt THAT bad... they are just kinda annoying.

Is there any connection between the impacted wisdom tooth and the production of saliva?

I have excessive saliva in my mouth , i went to many doctors and i didn't find any solution for this problem yet , i was talking with my dentist about my impacted wisdom tooth (__the bottom two__) and he told me why should i remove them and one of the reasons they should be removed is that they could play a big role in saliva production if they are impacted , i started having the saliva problem when i was 18 by then my wisdom tooth started to become impacted iam 20 now , and because my widsom tooth doesn't bother me i never thought about removing them , but after what my denist told me i start thinking about removing them , so can some body tell me if there is a real connection between the impacted wisdon tooth and saliva ,,, thank you , god bless

Is there any connection between the impacted wisdom tooth and the production of saliva?
As far as I know, it doesn't. I've worked for a dentist for 2 years as an assistant, and never heard that. It is usually recommended to have wisdom teeth removed anyway as they are basically just in the way and can push on your other teeth and damage them. Hope this helps, good luck.

Impacted Wisdom Tooth?

Hi, I got my impacted wisdom tooth removed on June 9th. My doctor gave me some medicines. For the past three days i am feeling very tired and i am suffering from Stomach Pain like hell. Always feeling drousy. Can anyone help me regarding this to find out what was the cause????

Impacted Wisdom Tooth?
The meds may be upsetting your stomach, and you may be taking too much medication. If you do not have to take all of the medicines, back off of a couple of them and make sure you take your meds with food or milk.

I had 10 teeth removed at once, six were impacted. Too much pain meds can hurt your stomach. It can also cause the sleepiness.

If it continues, call your dentist.
Reply:It is likely just side effects of your pain killers and medication. Check with your pharmacist to be sure.
Reply:if you got vicadin for a pain reliever that could be a cause. a lot of medicine like that can make you drowsy and cause vomiting, headaches and such. you should go see the doctor about it though and tell him your symptons.
Reply:The medicines are probably pain killer and an antibiotic. Let your dentist know. You'll probably be switched to a milder painkiller (maybe even over-the-counter Tylenol or Ibuprophen at this point) and perhaps a different antibiotic.
Reply:The drugs that are given as post-operative medications may actually give rise to stomach discomfort depending on the type of drug, dose of intake, and frequency of intake.

The medications for pain are particularly notorious for stomach discomfort. The most commonly prescribed among these are mefenamic acid, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and diclofenac. If this is the case, this ask your dentist if you can replace them with a paracetamol or a cox2 type of NSAIDS

The antibiotics given to prevent infection may also cause some discomfort to the stomach. This is more likely when an erythromycin is given. If this is a case, an antacid would help.

Have you been eating proprerly? In many cases, the patient who has just had an impacted tooth removed refrains from eating. This may also cause some stomach discomfort as well as a feeling of weakness. In this regard, eating properly would probably help.

There is a normal sequence of events for post-operative healing. Usually the post-operative pain of the surgical site will peak within 12 hours and will remain that way for 48 hours. After that the conditions will improve gradually over 5-7day.

If conditions become worse after 72 hours, this is a sign that there is a problem and must be reported to the surgeon for evaluation. The usual cause is an infection. This is possible even if an antibiotic is being taken.

If your tooth was taken out June 9 you should be be b

rushing the area by now to keep it clean. If the area is not being cleaned properly, this may be a source of infection.

Bottom line is you should be feeling better by now. go back to your surgeon and have it checked. It may be nothing but nothing to lose and everything to gain to have it checked.

Impacted Wisdom Tooth Removal?

All 4 of my wisdom tooth are impacted.

AND I NEED TO GET THEM REMOVED!

Can someone pleeeeeeeease help me because I am SO scared! I am scared to death! That's all I can think about everyday! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Please help me, if you have experienced it before.

Impacted Wisdom Tooth Removal?
ull be fine, it felt like i was asleep for a few seconds, i didnt even take the prescription pain medicine he gave me, i just took motrin. i was sorta eating tiny bits of turkey the first night.

but it also depends on how impacted they are...buy a bag of frozen peas to put on ur face afterwards
Reply:It's really not that bad hun. Most oral surgeons put the patient to sleep to remove these. When you wake you will have some discomfort for a few days but pain medication is prescribed that works very well. I had mine removed many years ago and did just fine.
Reply:it not that bad....

but it was 4 me bc i got 2 dry sockets but now i kno how 2 prevent tht....

DO NOT sleep with a pillow or eat hard food.

after the bleeding is gone u can sleep with a pillow tho..

n wen u feel bettr eat pudding bc if ur like me n hate puddding then ur try to digesting blood n will throw up evry few minutes.
Reply:2 months back I had 8 teeth removed, 2 of which were my wisdom teeth. Have the I.V sedation and you wont know a thing. I wasnt in pain afterwards. Its not that bad, they give you pain meds anyway but your mouth may be a little soar but your not in pain.
Reply:I had both my lower wisdom teeth removed about 3 weeks ago, as they were impacted and decayed, plus the molars next to them. I was absolutely dreading it, just like you are.

I had them done under general anesthetic in the hospital, and Im glad to say it all went fine. I had quite a bit of swelling for about a week, but I didn't feel any real pain as such, just a sore throat and stiff neck and jaw. I was back on solid food after about 6 days, and enjoyed my Xmas dinner.

If you're having it done under general (Im guessing you will be if they're impacted), it shoud be fine. You'd be unconcious throughout, and oblivious to all the nastiness that you might have read about. Ignorance is bliss!!!
Reply:Everyone is scared to have it done. It's usually people's first type of surgery . Going to sleep, sounds scarey, but it makes for a more comfortable experience overall. You will wake up right away after wards. It's like a twilight sleep. Not too deep. Just enough that you are comfortable and are not able to remember anything. It will be over before you know it.

Follow aftercare instructions. Apply ice pack for the first 24 hrs. only. reduces swelling. They will most likely give you Rx for pain. You'll probably have discomfort for a few days. Good Luck!!
Reply:I know how you feel. I thought it was going to be horrible, and mine was a little harder because they were so very large. I also found out that I had 5 wisdom teeth, and one was growing a root that was almost melded to my jaw. I was fortuanate to have a VERY good dentist who was sympathetic. I felt no pain during the extractions I actually felt pressure relief immediately. Now after the shots wore off, and the healing, I still get pain where they were, a year later, but it is nothing compared to three weeks of sleepless nights.

Because I do have a phobia of things being put in my mouth he suggested I take some valium before hand and joked thru out the procedure, which made it hard for me because of the fact he had his hands and tools in my mouth, I couldn't move it, and the muscles were paralyized almost. I mean its hard to laugh or chuckle in that position. Go ahead and get it over with. It isn't worth the agony you're going thru.
Reply:calm down its not so bad.

ur dentist should of given u a choice to have him/her do it or go to an oral surgeon. i have experienced it b4. i made a desicion to have one removed completely awake b/c i was afriad to be knocked out for the procedure. it might not hurt to bad if u have a high pain tolerance. i have a high pain tolerance and it killed me after i had it removed. dont be scared. i was scared but i had to do it b/c i wasnt eating so dont stress dont think about. go out and hang with friends the night b4.
Reply:Hey i too am getting them removed! I think sometime like the 2 or third week of February. I just had my top one taken out last wednesday and it wasnt' bad at all I was awake and it came out like in 20 seconds I had gauze on it and like by 1:30 I felt fine..my jaw was alittle sore for a couple of days I mostly missed eating...no real pain I just took Advil. I am going to have my bottom two removed they are impacted. I'm nervous but keep praying about it! Keep intouch I hope it goes well. I'll be praying ofr you
Reply:I am lucky enough that none of my wisdom teeth are fully impacted under bone, but I have to have all of them removed eventually, because of decay and partial soft-tissue impaction.

I just had my lower left wisdom tooth, and an adjacent tooth, removed yesterday, and I have no pain or swelling in my mouth at all.

I was awake for the entire procedure, as it was only 2 adjacent teeth, but in most cases where they are removing several impacted teeth, they will sedate you. It took less than 15 minutes to get both teeth out.

I think I may have a high pain threshold, but the extraction didn't even hurt. I felt slight pressure, but the local anesthesia worked well.

I didn't bleed for too long after, less than an hour.

I don't smoke, so I can't tell you how long you should wait to smoke if you do.

I did eat regular Mcd's food later that night, chewing on the opposite side of my mouth, but if you are having all of them removed at once, you won't be as fortunate.

My "hole" is already closed up, and I can no longer see anything but gum tissue at the extraction site.

The only discomfort I have had since then is a sore throat, a stiff neck, and lethargy. I am not sure if these symptoms are even related to it, and it may just be a coincidence that I am developing a cold at the same time, but the stiff neck might be from them yanking and pushing on my jaw during the extraction.

My advice is to relax, get it over with, and follow all the after-care instructions exactly, because you don't want to risk getting a dry socket. I've heard it's ten times worse than regular tooth pain, which is unbearable in itself.

Impacted Wisdom Tooth?

I assume that I have an impacted wisdom tooth on the lower left side of my jaw, half of the tooth is exposed, while the other half is still buried under my gums, and it has been swelling and paining me for two days. Any suggestions on what I should do? [The bottome right side is like that, but it isn't swelling or paining me. The top left tooth is fully exposed [I think] and the upper right tooth isn't even there]

I am 13 years old and I'm getting braces next month.

You really should consult a Dentist. If you need a good Dental Plan:

You don't want to guess at something like this, it can become worse during the waiting process.

Take Care!
Reply:AT 13 THERE IS NO WAY THIS WOULD BE THIRD MOLAR, AKA WISDOM TOOTH). MOST PEOPLE START TO GET THESE BETWEEN 17-24 YEARS OF AGE. THIS MAY BE A MAL-POSITIONED SECOND MOLAR. SEE A DENTIST FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS.

FYI. BRACES ON THIS TOOTH MAY EASILY STRAIGHTEN IT OUT.
Reply:Yes, i had this for years, put hydrogen pyroxide on it about two or three times a day. the tooth is trying to come through, after it comes in fully it won't hurt or swell anymore. just keep that area clean by brushing it often or gargling and using the hydrogen pyroxide.
Reply:It needs to come out. My bottom wisdom teeth were impacted and my top ones weren't. I had all of them puled at the same time. Talk to your dentist before you get your braces. The problme with impacted wisdom teeth is that food gets stuck under the gum line hence the swelling. I am not sure is you are old enough to have your wisdom teeth pulled though.

Impacted wisdom tooth removal!!??

i have a impacted widom tooth and it started to hurt a couple days ago and cant really eat normal food because my mouth wont let me open them. im goin to the dentist tomorrow and i have a feeling that hes going to take them out. im not a fan of dentists and surgury, and i want to kno exactly how hes going to take it out? i read online that after they cut the gum they break the bone to allow the wisdom tooth to be removed? did anyone else have to break the bone below the wisdom tooth to exctract the tooth? how did they do it, drill, chisel? and does it hurt? also did u get stiches to fix the cut gum??

Impacted wisdom tooth removal!!??
I had this done on two wisdom teeth at the same time. In my case I went to hospital and they put a needle in the back of my hand, I felt sick for a milisecond and then I was spark out cold. I was in a dentist chair when they did this.

When I came round I was still in the chair, totally pain free. They gave me a bag with 3 teeth in it!!!! I asked them how many teeth they took out and they said two, so I said why are there three in the bag and he said, oh no thats a bit of your jaw bone!!!! Still no pain, just nervous giggles.

Doctor said eat some yoghurt and then go to bed, it will soak up any blood they you may have swallowed.

I went straight home to bed with no yoghurt and when I woke up I couldn't speak as my face was so swollen but still no pain.

Mother told me I was green and I felt really sick. I ate some yoghurt and fell back to sleep, still no pain.

When I woke up I felt absolutely fine. No sickness. My face was very swollen for a few days and I could only eat food from a teaspoon with the food levelled off or it all piled up on my top lip ;0)

I have had a few operations and even had a tooth removed whilst awake and this was the easiest of them all. ITs no big deal, all the horrible stuff happens when you are unconscious and the rest of it all heals up when you sleep.

I even went back to college with a swollen face a few days later and won student of the year, so it doesn't stop you doing anything at all if you dont mind looking like a guinea pig for a few days ;0)
Reply:the only impact is that you loose a tooth and the unnecessary pain......... it has no effect in your wisdom.... if you have any...
Reply:hi. i had all 4 of mine out at once. They had to break the wisdom teeth up to get them out but not the bone below.

there were a couple of stitches put in 2 of the holes. Was sore for a few days after but what a relief having them gone!!!

Good luck tomorrow! You will feel better having them out

PS%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; I was put to sleep to have all mine removed because they were a tough job to get out. Freezing was also put in. No worries. You'll be fine
Reply:It is painless. You have nothing to worry about. More worry only causes more stress.
Reply:They will cut them out, all of mine were impacted also. You will have stitches. I also had bruises on my cheeks afterwards. It isnt as bad as it sounds. You will be asleep, and they give you heavy pain killers.
Reply:Your dentist won't do it. If he decides you need this procedure, then he'll refer you to an oral surgeon. I've had it done to all four of my wisdom teeth. Honestly, I don't know how they do it, but I do know that it hurts! BUT... recovery is 100%, they give you a lot of pain pills, and you're usually as good as new in a couple of weeks. It is DEFINITELY better than letting those teeth crowd the rest of your teeth and cause you pain for the rest of your life! In any case, being that your dentist won't do it when you visit tomorrow, relax, and write down all your questions. He'll be able to answer all of them better than we can. Good luck!
Reply:The anaestesia (sp?) works like a charm. You don't feel a bit of pain. However, you still physically feel what they are doing to you which can be distressing. If the teeth han't sprouted, which was the case for me, they cut the gums. Then they do some drilling, then they rock the tooth with pliers, and finally they push hard on one side to dislodge the tooth. It is in these moments that you really appreciate how firmly your permanent teeth are lodged in your jaw. Finally, they stich you up. It's serious punishment to the jaw, and indeed when the numbness wears off you'll have to pop painkillers for the next few days, but I don't really know about BREAKING the jaw.
Reply:I had it done and it's really not that bad....They give you enough shots so that you don't feel a darn thing. They cut the gum open and drill the tooth into a few pieces. They removed the pieces and stiched it up...The stiches are absorbable and will pop out in their own...They will prescribe pain meds and antibiotics. You will have to keep cotton in your mouth until the blood clods....It's a little weird for a few days but heals really quick...
Reply:All of mine have been removed. For 2 of them, I went to a dentist that specialized in extractions, got a needle in my arm and when I awoke it was all over.

For the other two, went to my regular dentist and received a local anesthetic. One was hooked around the jaw bone. The bone wasn't broken, but the tooth was crushed and taken out in pieces in order to get it out. I felt a lot of pressure, but no pain.

The gum will be stitched to promote healing.

I recommend that you start taking whatever pain killer the dentist gives you before the anesthetic completely wears off. That way, you'll avoid any residual discomfort after the anesthetic is gone before the pain killer kicks in.
Reply:Its no big deal anymore, they have gotten really good at it. If you are nervous, spend the extra money for nitrous oxide in addition to the novacaine. I've had several oral surgeries and none of them have been bad at all. Don't worry about it any more. They'll give you a codine or vicodin prescription in case it hurts afterward.

Does an impacted wisdom tooth have to be surgically removed or can it be pulled?

Can a dentist pull an "impacted" wisdom tooth or does it have to be surgically removed. I dont have health insurance so I went to a cheaper dentist to remove my impacted wisdom tooth. He gave me novicaine and pulled the tooth. But I was told by several other people that it would have to be surgically removed and that an impacted wisdom tooth could not be pulled. Im worried that he did a botch job on my tooth. What should I do?

Does an impacted wisdom tooth have to be surgically removed or can it be pulled?
If the tooth was not showing at all (meaning it was impacted), then it would have had to be cut out of your jaw. If it was showing, then it was not impacted and it could have been pulled. If you have not had any additional pain or problems, I wouldn't worry about him doing a botched job - trust me, with this surgery, you'd know! I sure did!
Reply:it has to be surgically removed, coz a nerve is present close to that area, however if the dentist is careful enough he can just pull it.........if anything wrong happens ul have intense pain or numbness in the area, if u dont have any such symptoms, then its ok........
Reply:surgical removel is best
Reply:A general dentist can remove a impacted tooth. If he feels comfortable with doing it . And if he placed sutures then he did surgically remove the tooth. I'm sure he did a good job . Are your having any problems? It sound like you aren't if so be glad he could do this for you or your would be paying a hole lot more for the same procedure that an oral surgeon would have charged.

Is it normal to have a tightness and tenderness in the mouth after a bony impacted wisdom tooth extraction?

I got my wisdom teeth removed almost two weeks ago. My two bottom ones were bony impacted, meaning they were sideways and encased by jaw bone. Apparently the doctor had to cut through the bone to break the tooth and take it out piece by piece. Anyway, the wounds have since healed, but now I am feeling a tightness in my mouth, mostly on the lower part of the inside of my cheek running all the way down to my lower jaw. The site of the wisdom tooth extraction is also still a bit swollen and sore when I press on the outside of my cheek or when my toothbrush accidentally jabs the area. Is this normal for two weeks post-surgery?

Is it normal to have a tightness and tenderness in the mouth after a bony impacted wisdom tooth extraction?
I just had mine out last week...all 4 PLUS an extra molar. I STILL have lots of soreness and tightness in my jaw. If I don't take my pain meds then I have LOTS of stiffness. I have been living off of mashed potatoes and pudding and jello...ugh, I can't wait to eat a big huge steak! I hope you feel better soon! I feel your pain!
Reply:Actually, I had the exact same problem... both the bony impaction on the lower molars, and the pain afterwards.

The most common complication and cause of unwarranted surgical pain is the "dry socket", which occurs when the gap generated in your oral cavity by the surgery does not heal properly. Dry sockets may very rarely lead to infection of the region.

Your dentist or oral surgeon can treat this with special ointments and/or gauzes; please visit them and have them take a look.

Hope your mouth gets better!
Reply:not sure sorry...but im getting mine taken out tomorrow actually!! So i hope this is normal...good luck!

I need an Oral Surgeon that accept medicaid in Indianapolis that pulled impacted, infected wisdom teeth?

There should be a list of dental providers that accept Medicaid. Your caseworker should have a copy of it.

If not, call (or visit) the Medicaid office and they should be able to help you find a dentist who can help you.

Good Luck!

I need an Oral Surgeon that accept medicaid in Indianapolis that pulled impacted, infected wisdom teeth?
Most oral surgeons don't accept Medicaid. Call your Medicaid caseworker and ask them for referrel. If u are over 18 they won't cover dental of any kind. You may contact a dental school who does that stuff for help.

Has anyone had a impacted tooth pulled down or their wisdom teeth pulled that could answer this question?

I am 13 and getting them pulled Friday. What is the pain like? I am really scared and was wondering if anyone had any past experiences or advice.

Has anyone had a impacted tooth pulled down or their wisdom teeth pulled that could answer this question?
I had 4 impacted teeth excised when I was about your age. The dentist knocked me totally out so I don't remember a thing about the actual pulling of the teeth. I can tell you though that the pain was not that bed afterwards. They sent me home with a prescription for some kind of pain medication, but I didn't really take it after the first day. It seems like I didn't really feel like doing anything for a couple of days though, I may have used getting my teeth pulled as an excuse to just lay around and catch up on some sleep, lol. Hope all goes well for you!
Reply:I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed at one time when I was 21. I had difficulty opening my jaw, but the pain wasn't too bad. I took Tylenol #3's and that was enough. I was talking on the phone with my friends the next day.
Reply:yeah, i was 12 when they pulled out one of my teeth. Uhhm, it doesn't hurt like at all. They give you about 2 shots, it depends, and your whole mouth feels numb in like seconds. Then they get like a wrench thingi and shake it out..you don't feel a thing. =] hope i helped.. good luck =]
Reply:3 of my wisdom teeth were impacted, and they had to be dug out. during the procedure, you won't feel anything b/c they will numb your mouth, and probably give you some medication to make you a little woozy. that's what they did for me anyway. you will be on painkillers afterwards for the pain. the biggest problem for me was eating the following few days. but dont worry, just get some jello and pudding and soup and you will be fine a few days later.
Reply:I was about your age when mine were done. Are you getting the done is a hospital under general? or are you just going to dentist office??

When mine were down it was in a hospital and i was put right out. 2of my teeth cam eout really easy but 2 they had to cut my gums to get them, 1 of them broke into a few peices.

I vomited blood but that was most likely from the sleepy drugs, my face hurt and was swollen for a few days, but in all honesty in a few days I was fine. You may get stitches in your gums and its really hard to not play with them, try not to, i couldn;t restrain myself and ended up pulling 1 out way to soon.

have lots of ice and soft foods for few days, take the pain killers if you need them, don;t suffer to be tough so not worth it.

Good luck and keep in mind that everyone tolerance to pain and the procedure itself is different, just as yours will not be the same as your next door neighbours.

How long is the recovery for impacted wisdom tooth removal?

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday. It is now Saturday and I still cannot close my mouth because my cheeks are so swollen. The swelling seems to have spread to my throat a little bit, because when I touch that area it hurts a little bit. My Oral Surgeon didn't give me a syringe to clean out the wounds, which I feel like he should have. I also have some bruising on my cheeks and eye, although I know this is normal (same thing happened to my girlfriend). What I'm really wondering is how long it'll take before the swelling will go down and I'll be able to eat normal food again. Christmas is two days away and I'd like to be able to enjoy it.

How long is the recovery for impacted wisdom tooth removal?
Some people swell up like a blow fish when they have their wisdom teeth removed. Some do not. Put ice packs on the swelling, take some motrin and relax. You can now rinse out your mouth with salt water. You could have started that after 24 hours. Drink lots of liquids. Watch for fever or increased pain. Call the dentist if that happens. He did not give you a syringe because it is necessary for a blood clot to form in order for healing to take place, otherwise you develop something called a dry socket and that is VERY painful. Rinsing out the socket is not something you want to do. The swelling should be going down my christmas day although not gone. You will be able to enjoy Christmas dinner maybe in slower and smaller bites.
Reply:when i had my impacted wisdom teeth removed, my cheeks swelled up like a chipmunk for a week! but after 7 days i was good and back to normal and my sisters had stopped making fun of my puffy cheeks :) good luck and i hope you get to enjoy Christmas dinner, even if it is a little more mashed up than usual! :)
Reply:When I had my wisdom teeth removed I was in a worse situation than you. I was knocked out and when I woke up I had major swelling and bruises. Also, I kept throwing up for like 3 days so I could not eat much. Even after that I could not take my pain medicine because it would make me get sick. So use ice packs, take pain medicine if you can keep it down, also you can gargle with salt water, eat soft things, and drink plenty of liquids.

Can i get dry socket with an impacted wisdom tooth?

I had two bottom wisdom teeth removed. They were impacted and deep down covered by my gums. The surgeon had to cut through my gums to get to the teeth to pull them out. The hole was then sewn completely shut covering any hole that was left.

So is it even possible for me to get dry socket considering that the socket is completely covered?

Can i get dry socket with an impacted wisdom tooth?
As long as you don't smoke for a couple days if you even do smoke, and if you keep it rinsed with warm water, no salt added (why rub salt in your wounds) then you should recover and heal well with in a week. Take all of your antibiotics till finished. The only other way to end up with dry socket is (if you're a girl) are on birth control pills. That will also "sometimes" delay healing (dry socket).
Reply:Yes a dry socket is still possible, and is more common when lower teeth are removed. But it may not happen either, so try not to worry about it. Take your antibiotic if one was given to you and finish it. You should start rinsing with warm salty water but wait at least 24 hours before doing so. You can also rinse with some listerine after 24 hours. You should be applying ice for the first 24-36 hours 10-15 mins on/off then hot moist compress after that for several days as often as you can. If you have pain and the dentist gave you pain meds then take it otherwise if you can safely take Ibuprofen then take it. This works not only for pain but swelling. Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours, longer if you can, avoid drinking through a straw. Eat softer foods like scrambled egg, rice, potatos, pasta, yogurt, icecream, just to name a few. No brushing or flossing in these areas, use a q-tip dipped in some listerine or even a bit of your toothpaste and gently clean the teeth next to the extraction sites. You need to keep the areas clean, but you need to be gentle too.

Good Luck

I have another question about an Infected Impacted Wisdom Tooth?

Ya, i have an infected and impacted wisdom tooth on my booth left side. It has made the gum area red, swollen, and bleeds sometimes. That side of the throat is really sore too. I just called back my dentist, and he said the earliest he can get me in is in 18 days, and he doesnt want to give me any antibiotics until AFTER the tooth is removed. Isnt that unsafe, the wait 18 days to remove it if it is infected? Should i be worried that it will spread or something? What can i personally do to help with the infection besides brushing my teeth

I have another question about an Infected Impacted Wisdom Tooth?
Good heavens! get another dentist! The one you have enjoys your pain far too much. the tooth is abscessing...you should be on antibiotics NOW. and an infected, abscessed tooth should NOT be messed with until the infection is done away with!
Reply:Get a second opinion. If the second opinion agrees, then listen to it.

Reply:This infection sounds very serious to me. I think that if there is any pus or you start to run a fever, you should go to an immediate care place right away to make sure it's not spreading.

I had a cat who got an infected tooth, which her regular veterinarian couldn't handle. It took so long to get her into the animal dentist that the infection got into her mandible. It was a struggle to get her healthy again. I know you're not a cat, but it seems to me that the same thing could happen to you.
Reply:I would suggest using a water pick, gargle with warm salt water and also gargle with Listerine (mint flavored tastes best). Brush your teeth thoroughly 3 times a day. IF your dentist was concerned it could hurt you he would have gotten you in sooner than the 18th. For pain take Ibuprofen it's the best.
Reply:your case is emergence case not for appointment you have TO GET AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE GOOD COVER OF ANTIBIOTIC .

THE INFECTION MY SPREED TO THE BODY %26amp;MAY CASE ENDOCARDITITS

%26amp;may case but in reare case cavernes sinues thromboss %26amp; that mean may case death . so record this to your dintist .

your case is acute piriocorinitis.
Reply:That sounds really odd.... my dentist wouldn't pull my tooth until the infection was gone and gave me antibiotics to clear it up..... I don't understand the reasoning behind your guy's statement. Why would you wait to clear an infection? In 18 days, on anti-b's, it would completely gone.... Go for a second opinion. Try to find someone who can get you in sooner too! My infection spread to my sinus'! The barrier between your mouth and your brain cavity is very thin and infection can pass through it quite easily. Definitely find another dentist to see what they have to say. Good Luck, I've been there!

Can you be awake during impacted wisdom tooth extraction?

I need 2 of my wisdom teeth removed - both impacted, I believe, one's already through the gums, one isn't - and I wanted to know if I'm able to be awake during it. My dentist keeps insisting you can't be, but I have a strong feeling you probably can and it's just not pleasant. So, can you or can't you? Also, I have breathing problems, and a heart condition, which is why I have issues with being put out. (And yes, I brought these concerns up.) If I *can* stay awake, just how much unpleasantness am I, realistically, looking at? And how likely is it that they might accidentally break my jaw, as I have a very small mouth?

Can you be awake during impacted wisdom tooth extraction?
My boys went in to have theirs out - one guy had 3 out and the other had 4 out. Neither were put to sleep. They were given nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and the gums were numbed. They were both done and out of the office in under an hour. We had a fantastic dental surgeon. They came home with tylenol 3's for the pain after the freezing wore off. Had the surgery done on a friday and were back in school on monday.
Reply:I would not want to be awake. You will do fine. BTW I had two removed. I was put out, and was glad I was.
Reply:im pretty sure it will hurt like hell if you stay awake. imagine, if it hurt when they were growing in, how bad is it going to hurt when they take them out? the have to break through your gums and then sow them back up. you might even pass out from the pain anyways. plus its going to hurt for days later. trust me, you need to be put out. besides you will be probably put on a respirator to control your breathing.
Reply:You can be. I was out for my first 4 extractions and the last four I was awake. You're numbed so much you feel nothing.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth taken out at different times. I was awake the first time when they did my bottom teeth and one was impacted. The dentist did a really good job of numbing my mouth and I didn't feel anything. He was also quite funny and kept me laughing and relaxed the whole time. Unfortunately, he retired and two years later I had to have the top ones out. I HATE general anesthesia so I called around to A LOT of dentists and oral surgeons to see if they would do it with me awake but they all said no. So yes, it is possible to stay awake, however, I doubt you'll find anyone who will do it with you awake. They're all pretty much gone to putting people to sleep.

As far as your lung and heart problems....Think about the people who have bad enough lung and heart problems that they need a transplant, they actually need a new lung or heart. The doctors put them to sleep to perform the surgery.
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom taken out three days ago, and I was awake! Yeah...it sucked. The odds of them breaking your jaw is very VERY unlikely, but yet not Impossible. I have a very small jaw, and they didn't break my jaw..they just had a little bit more trouble with it, they had to use a drill on my bottom teeth and drill a small hole in the wisdom teeth and then take this rounded tip thing (sorry I don't know what it's called) and stick it in the hole and break it in half, I guess it makes it easier for them to take it out.. Whenever you're put out, they ALWAYS have a breathing specialist, so don't worry, you're in very good hands. And chances of you waking up are very unlikely...

Don't worry, you'll do great!

3.5 weeks post-impacted wisdom tooth removal?

I had four impacted wisdom teeth removed about 3.5 weeks ago and it was a very traumatic removal (I have a very small jaw). I have posted since then asking about pain, etc that has been on and off.

The pain has gone away for now it seems but I noticed today at the back of my mouth, there are these white blobs that weren't there before where there was pink gum tissue. What are those and why did they appear? Did they have something to do with the pain I was having for a couple of days late last week?

Any light you can shed on this would be great. Thanks!

3.5 weeks post-impacted wisdom tooth removal?
eww, sounds gross. see your dentist post haste! when i had my wisdom teeth out, they were just pulled, so i don't know what to expect with post-surgery, pain wise, but white "blobs" where there was previously pink gum tissue sounds like infection. unless that's normal appearance for healing gum tissue? don't play around, call the dentist. if it's infection, there are serious ramifications if left untreated. i kid you not, sepsis can land you in the E.R. or kill you.
Reply:See a dentist!
