I have impacted wisdom teeth. How bad is it to have all four of them removed surgically?

I would recommend getting put to sleep when they do the process. It's not the most pleasent thing to have them removed anyway.

It;s not so bad...the worst part for me was the fact that it took so long to get th feeling back in my mouth. I actually still have some numbness in my lower jaw....They give good pain meds and you have to eats soft foods for about a week.

Reply:Its not too bad....afterwards it will hurt, but its best to get it done now before real pain sets in. I had it done and I was back to normal in 2 weeks.....good luck





They do knock you out for the proccedure.

Reply:I had my four wisdom teeth removed surgically. Because I do not remember anything, the actual procedure was not bad. After there is pain but it is not horrible. They prescribe pain medications and it will be fine.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth removed once.. I don't recall if they were impacted, but my one suggestion is this: If you do choose to get them removed, don't be awake for it. They gave me the option of having nitrous oxide (or maybe something heavier) or "going under." I chose to stay awake (I have no idea why) and I would strongly urge you to "go under." It wasn't completely awful, but it wasn't pleasant, and not something that I really needed to be awake for or something that I wanted to remember.
Reply:They will probably sedate you for the process so you won't feel the actual surgery. Afterward, you will be sore for a few days and will have to drink only liquids for awhile. Your cheeks will swell a little (kind of like a cute chipmunk) and you won't feel like doing much for a day or so.





The doctor will give you pain meds to help ease the discomfort. You should be raring to go again in 3 to 5 days.
Reply:Speaking from personal experience, I had all four removed under anesthesia. It is the best way FOR ME because my tolerance for pain is zero. Communicate with your dentist the options you have available to you. Age, physical condition, weight, etc. play a major part in this kind of therapy. Good luck
Reply:Been there, done that... it wasn't bad at all, in fact, it was a relief.
Reply:it's nowhere near as bad as what happens if you leave them in and you get an infection.
Reply:The actuall surgery is not bad because you don't remember it. But after surgery you will experience some discomfort and pain but you also are prescribed pain medication. For about 10-15 days afterward you will not be able to eat what you normally eat, mostly be able to eat soft foods. But the whole operation is not bad, make sure you do not get dry sockets though. If you do everything the doctor tells you to do you will be just fine.
Reply:Oh how I remember it well....I got put to sleep and I would highly recommend you do to...afterward it was a rough ride cuz I got dry socket from smoking...it was a nightmare
Reply:It's different for everybody. I was groggy the first 24 hours. My jaws were tender for a couple of days. I took the hydrocodone and ibuprofen religiously the first 3 days. I probably didn't eat solid food for about a week.





The braces won't be a problem. But sometimes when we have a patient come in after oral surgery, they may have a loose band or bracket. It's just a really tight fit back there and sometimes appliances get broken. It's not a big deal. Your orthodontist will fix it.

Reply:I had all 4 of my wisdom removed at one time too. The surgeon put me under general anesthesia (meaning I was put to sleep but breathing on my own). When I woke up, I had a great nap and they were out. The surgeon prescribed antibiotics and pain killers and for the next two days, I was out like a puppy. My checks swell up like a hamster with food in its mouth. I mean my face literally looked like a piece of square sandwich bread. I had my wisdom teeth out on Friday and I was back to work on Monday. While my boss and co-workers made fun of my hamster-look, everything was fine. I was back on solid food on Monday. So don't worry, just relax, do what I did, schedule the appointment on a Fri and take the weekend off. By the way, I had braces on at the time too.
