Please help with tremendous jaw/chin pain- 7 days after impacted wisdom teeth extraction? Professionals please

I am in so much pain. I have consulted with the oral surgeon's office, who says it is normal to feel this way. They have told me to use hot compresses and ibuprofen or tylenol- which I have been doing. I fear that I have been exceeding the maximum dose of the tylenol and ibuprofen (which I have not been using at the same time by the way).

Night have been excruciating. I even took a sleeping pill last night and was STILL up every few minutes reheating my washcloth.

Please give me some advice- tell me this WILL in fact go away. The pain is terrible. The extraction sites are not hurting me anymore but the pain in my jaw and chin seems to be increasing.

When can I look forward to relief and what can I do until then? Besides what they have already told me.

Thanks for your help.

If it's been 7 days and the pain has not decreased, it is NOT normal and you may want to go to the ER... they have dentists on call.

Your oral surgeon's office should have at least given you an appointment to evaluate the problem... even if it was simply for peace of mind for you...........

Best of luck to you~

Reply:poor baby, I know exactly how you feel. My wisdom teeth were severely impacted and when I had them removed it took several weeks for the pain to go away. I was in agony. If the dental surgeon will not give you some thing for the pain, go see your MD and tell them the problem, they may have more sympathy, mine did.
Reply:WoW! Check in with your Oral Surgeon on a daily basis, keeping track if the pain is lessening at all. It could be TMJ problems or it could be problems with the nerve in the lower jaw as well. Sometimes if the nerve in the lower jaw is pinched, due to injections or difficulty with removal of those lower wisdom teeth that may have been entangled in that nerve, in that area you could have some paralysis or pain or both.

If you are not getting any answers from this Oral Surgeon, get a second opinion.

Keep using the warm compresses 20 minutes on 20 minutes off if they help, if not try, the opposite, ice packs 20 mins on 20 mins off and see if that alleviates some of the pain. Ibuprofen or Motrin will help the best as well.

Good luck
