Have you ever had impacted wisdom teeth pulled out?

im getting the needle general anestetic, not put to sleep. i had my other 2 done 2 months ago. but im scared because the needles hurt so bad , and they dont have gas in that office

Have you ever had impacted wisdom teeth pulled out?
close your eyes u wont even fill the needle coming out because you'll be numb but see if you can find another qualifying dentist in your area that will accept your insurance that has the gas
Reply:Ask them to put plenty of topical on first, then to GO SLOW pushing in the anesthetic. That will help A LOT. What hurts is generally not the needle, but all that liquid going into a very small space. P.S. If your dentist / oral surgeon doesn't "get" that, go to a children's dentist / oral surgeon specializing in kids... they are much gentler.
Reply:Yep, years ago. Four of them, actually. Putting me to sleep wasn't the problem...it was waking me up that was tough! I was on a couch after, yelling at the top of my lungs, "I WANT MY TEETH!"...not that I missed them or anything. I just wanted them as a souvenir but had no clue how loudly I was talking because of the anesthetic. It didn't hurt, BTW.
Reply:I did several years ago. They knock you out, give you a drug to make you forget the whole ordeal. Next thing you know, you wake up at home with a mouth full of cotton. Nothing hurts, just numb.... for several hours. Be sure to get a good narcotic for pain. I stayed on clear liquids for a few days. The worst of it lasts for about 3 days... then subsides. Just keep your mouth clean!!!! I can't state that enough! Swish with salt water a few times per day to prevent dry sockets. I recommed an oral surgeon if your wisdom teeth are impacted!!!!!!
Reply:I had the local anesthetic too when I had my impacted wisdoms pulled. It wasn't bad. If you get queasy hearing things happen, it may not be good. For mine I heard them breaking my teeth and felt them tugging. If you can deal with that, you will be fine. If you get faint or upset or scared, have them knock you out!
Reply:I've had it done with the needle and if you're dentist is anything like mine, you'll hardly notice any pain. Usually the dentist will massage certain areas of the outer cheek to minimize the pain when they inject the needle. Today's dentistry is so far more advanced then the dentistry of the past. At least they know that the worse thing that keeps people from seeing the dentist is pain. So, they worked hard in improving that spectrum.

Now, the only part you'll have to worry about while you are awake is hearing the sounds of the grinding and gnashing when they chisel away the impacted tooth.

It's not so bad.
Reply:i have two impacted wisdom teeth that have to be cut out, but im going to an oral surgeon. my husband had four impacted wisdom teeth cut out and afterwards he said it ached but wasnt bad. two of his teeth were soft tissue impactions(he never complained about those two) but the bottom ones were full bony impactions that leaned completely forward. they had to go into the bone and cut them out. those he had probs with, but not too bad. then again he was asleep when they did it. but anyways i hope i helped. i have to stop talking about it cuz i am a dental phobic and i still have anxiety attacks about it. goodluck : )
Reply:Yes I had novacaine also because I was in so much pain that they had to work quickly on my mouth. They gave me 3 relaxing drugs the morning of the dentist appt. which really made me feel drowsy, then I had all 4 pulled out at the same time. I believe I felt a tug here and there, but it was all over b4 I knew it. The pain after the novacaine was alittle unbearable, but the pain pills helped out. It took me about 4 days to get feeling more normal again. I will never forget that ordeal ever in my life.
Reply:yes i had all four wisdom tooth pulled out the same day also with general anesthesia I didn't feel a thing.
Reply:20 years ago, I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed, two of which were severely infected and could not be deadened with general anesthetic. My insurance did not cover gas so the dental assistants had to hold me down, strap my head in place and insert a rubber "ball" on one side of my mouth while the dentist performed his surgery. That was the first time that I saw Christ - and I'm an atheist! I would have traded my kingdom for a needle that day. (now, whatever my insurance won't cover, I'll gladly pay cash for.) So, count your blessings, breathe deeply and be sure to tell your dentist about your fears - if he's any good, he will go the extra mile to relax you and minimize your pain. Remember, your mouth will be healthier in the long run. (By the way, if you rinse your mouth with myrrh extract and warm water or take a couple of myrrh capsules for a few days, your mouth will heal a lot quicker with less pain.)
Reply:check around for another dentist that offers gas...you are the patient your dentist could probably reccomend a dentist that offers what you need
Reply:Don't be scared. There is nothing to worry about. You will be fine I'm sure. I opt. out of having it done without the anestetic because of that problem. I'm scared of those damn needles.. They hurt sooo bad. Anyway, remember that this will be the last time you'll ever have to deal with getting them pulled again. Last week I had all four of mine out and they were all impacted with crazy *** roots that "wrapped around my jaw bone" (my oral surgen said that). I was fine the day I came home. Tho I was pretty doped up from the meds they gave me there and the darvocets they perscribed me.

I suggest keeping your face packed with ice after the first day of surgery and then move to a warm rag the second day and don't forget to wash with salt water. I forgot to after a while because i didn't have pain and that was a huge mistake on my part. And remember this:

Slightly moistened tea bag can be very effective substitute for gauze. One of the components of tea (black tea, the regular stuff you would make ice tea from) is tannic acid. Tannic acid can aid in the formation of blood clots and this technique can be very effective.

I tried this myself and it works wonders! Don't be scared and good luck!
