Thanks!
I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth out exactly 2 weeks ago -- when can I drink from a straw again?
As long as you haven't had any bleeding for a few days, you can drink from a straw again. The reason you cannot at first is because the suction will dislodge the blood clot and create a "dry-socket" which can be very painful. The blood clot secures blood underneath so your tissues can heal. Without the blood clot, it is more like an open wound and doesn't heal well. Epithelium (cells of the skin and mucosa) start to migrate within a few days and within a week should have it closed up, assuming you haven't had complications or caused trauma in the area.
Long story short, if you haven't bled and it doesn't hurt anymore, GO FOR IT!
Reply:You should probably just avoid it at all cost, it won't hurt you if you don't drink from a straw. By the way, how much did it cost you? I have to get all my wisdom teeth taken out too.
Reply:should be in the list of instructions from your dentist..usually its when the stitches are gone
Reply:I started drinkin from a straw in like one week... But you might want to ask your dentist!!!
Reply:You can a few days after a extraction you can drink from a straw. The reason you do not sip through a straw is after your tooth is removed a blood clot is formed in the area the tooth was removed . If the blood clot is removed it will cause a dry socket which creates a opening down to the bone and you need to have to be medicated to create the same healing.
So you are safe you have already have great healing . So go for it. Hope this helped.
Reply:JAMES,
YOU'RE SOMEWHAT IGNORANT TO BELIEVE THIS WAS THE TOP PEDIATRIC DENTIST IN THE COUNTRY. HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS FOR A FACT.
AS A LICENSED DENTIST I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT IF IT'S BEEN 2 WEEKS SINCE YOUR EXTRACTIONS YOU MAY USE A STRAW.
WHETER YOU CHOOSE TO BEIEVE ME OR NOT DOESN'T MATTER.
