All of my wisdom teeth are impacted and are being taken out, what is the step by step procedure?

With the anesthesia and everything please? Does it hurt a lot?

All of my wisdom teeth are impacted and are being taken out, what is the step by step procedure?
1- take radiographs to locate the tooth

2- anaesthesia "most probably General Anaesthesia if all or most teeth are being pulled out at a time"

3- an incision is made to uncover the tooth

4- if there is bone around it, it should be removed by a device similar to that used to remove decay but slightly bigger.

5- the tooth can be removed in one or more pieces. Sometimes, the dentist has to cut it and remove it in 2-3 pieces. This depends on the location and angulation of the tooth

5- sharp bones are rounded using a bone file, then the incision is sutured to close the flap

There might be pain after anaesthesia is gone, but pain killers should reduce it. also, there might be swelling for a few days.

Pain and swelling depends on how aggressive the procedure was which depends on:

1- the dentist experience

2- location and angulation of the tooth

3- age and general health of the patient

4- shape and length of roots

The dentist should give you instructions to reduce postoperative complications such as:

1- no spitting no rinsing no sucking on a straw in the first day

2- no hot food in the first day

3- take rest

4- ice pads in the first day only

detailed instructions should be given by the dentist..
Reply:It wasn't even that bad, just hurt for a while after. But they didn't swell and I AM NOT PLANNING ON ANESTHESIA EVER AGAIN IT SUCKED lol Report It

Reply:They are probably gonna knock you out for this with IV sedation, just a shot in the arm and you are out like a minute later, they go in your mouth, cut out all of the impacted wisdom teeth, stitch you up and send you home, you won't remember anything about the whole ordeal, And it will only hurt afterwards, but not too bad, they will give you painkillers for that. I was eating pizza the day after I had mine cut out, so its not that bad. But every person is different. Just try not to spit or suck on anything for the first day or so, doing this could result in getting drysocket, which from what I hear is VERY painful.
Reply:No it doesn't hurt. You go to an oral surgeon. he knocks you out which anesthesia and you wake up with stitches in your mouth. A few days after surgery your face may swell a little and you cant really eat much more than soup, but the pain isn't bad. Just like = to having period cramps level of pain. I only took advil, I didn't need anything stronger for the pain. And I ate soup for several days and took a once a day multivitamin since I wasn't eating much. It isn't a big deal to get them taken out. I had 5 impacted wisdom teeth (i had an extra tooth, usually people only have 4 wisdom teeth, i had 5).
