This is a tricky procedure. They could be embedded in bone and may need to be split into three parts for removal. If they are embedded, the pain will be nagging for about five days. But if it is normal extraction, the recovery period will be two days, at most.
Getting my 2 bottom impacted wisdom teeth out in 2 days and Iam scared to death. Hows the pain after?
dont worry.
its not really painful...just stick to soft food for a couple of days.
good luck
Reply:I had 3 wisdom teeth removed on the same day. They hurt me a lot when they were extracting them, the anesthesia wasnt strong enough.. the pain afterwards is not too bad, if you have pain killers. ask your dr to prescribe you really strong ones....
Reply:That depends on your tolerance to pain,
when I had mine removed, the reduction in pain that I was feeling before the procedure was so great that the pain afterwords was nothing.
Reply:You'll get meds for pain...take them - and good luck.
[I really don't like going to the dentist. Can you tell?]
Reply:The pain isn't that bad. It's a little achy for a couple days but then it goes away quick. Just don't smoke or drink out of a straw after having them out. The dentist will more than likely tell you how to avoid a "dry socket" A dry socket occurs when the blood clot thats supposed to naturally form gets dislodged exposing the socket of the tooth. Now that can hurt because I had one because I'm a smoker.
Reply:i was pretty unhappy for a couple of days, but i had all four done at once. just take whatever pain killers they give u and chill out at home. u'll be fine.
Reply:Impossible to predict.
It depends on what angle the wisdom are, if they have to remove bone, if they have to raise a flap.
Also depends on what your tolerance is.
Ice packs and regular painkillers are the best solution.
Reply:The hardest part is the extraction, they sometimes really have to yank at them- not that it hurts, just weird to have the dentist over you yanking on your face. If you have a high pain tolerance then you'll be fine, just be sure to do what the dentist says, you don't want dry sockets! (when you pull the clot free where the tooth has been extracted) But take the pain killers, and rinse like you are told- nothing you can't handle!
Reply:See all of us are experienced people. It's not that bad. Discomfort, from keeping you mouth wide open during the surgery, yes. After 2 to 3 days you will be fine.
Reply:Not as bad as you think..the pain a bad tooth causes is worse but you are right to try to sleep lots through it.Best of luck to you.
Reply:My daughter just had all 4 of her wisdom teeth out last Friday - thank God they were able to pull them and not cut them out, though she was put under. She managed the pain quite well - and she is not a pain person. Dr. gave her a pain killer, which of course made her sleepy. She was fine come the next evening, just fairly sore
Reply:You will have swelling, but not much pain coz the dentist will gibe you pain killers to cover it the first day or 2. After that you should be fine.
Don't be afraid. It's not that bad. Take photos of yourself. It's fun for laughs later;)
Reply:Mine were also impacted-had all four out at once-it wasn't bad.
Reply:You'll sleep a lot after wards. Your doc will put you on some pretty potent pain meds which will help. But there is a certain measure of pain you will deal with. My wife equates it to labor pains in you mouth. Sorry
Reply:the doctors office will give u a list of wat u can and can not eat, stick to that and the recommended meds and take those as prescribed and you should do ok.
Reply:My sister had hers out and went to work the following day. When I had mine out, I got sick from the stuff they used to sedate me so I threw up a lot. Neither one of us had much pain afterwords though.
Reply:I had my 2 lower impacted wisdom teeth taken out when i was 16, and i was put under for it. Being sedated is wonderful because you are asleep. It seemed like as soon as my eyes were shut, the assistant was waking me up to tell me it was over. Follow all your doctor's post-op orders. Do not smoke, drink through a straw, or do any kind of vigorous activity that requires you to bend over. Take it easy for those next couple days. Soft foods and pain medication as needed. Your jaw will be achy, and you may have some trouble opening your mouth too wide, but within the week you will be better. Go in for the post op appts so your doctor can make sure you are healing properly.
The main concern is dry socket, and that is very painful. That is when the clot had been pulled out due to some kind of "suction" or vacuum formed in the mouth (hence dont smoke or drink thru a straw). But as long as you follow all post op instructions you'll do fine!! good luck!
Reply:If they have you under "good' enough you won't feel anything during the surgery. The pain afterwards is achy type pain. You will need to relax (no running around the house). Make sure you drink plenty of water. You may not feel thirsty but you will feel much better if you stay hydrated.
Good luck to you.
Reply:If you follow the Post Operative instruction they give you when you are released your discomfort will be minimal.
However, more often than not, people tend to ignore the Post Operative instructions and return to the Dentist office complaining of sever pain because of a dry socket.
Dry socket is where the blood clot has become dislodged.
Reply:You will have some pain but getting those dastardly things out is worth it. They can never cause you pain again. I'll be thinking about you for the next few days and hoping it turns out to be a piece of cake.
Reply:You can have the procedure done under sedation and you won't hear or feel a thing. Afterwards ? I didn't have much pain. Certainly nothing extreme in nature. The gums may bleed a little bit for the next couple of days .. just suck on popsicles or drink down your favorite cold beverages .. (non-alcoholic) .. and you will do just fine. Hundreds of people have had this procedure done over the years.. and speaking for myself, it was not a big deal at all. It is only the anticipation and the worry before hand that is the worst part. Good luck with it !! :)
