I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth removed yesterday. After the procedure, I was feeling fine.?

I woke up this morning with a lot of swelling on the left side of my throat/glands. Is this normal? Is there anything other than ice and heat to relieve the swelling?

I also can't eat much. I vomitted everything up last night ( i assume it was the TYLOX). I managed to eat some yogurt and jello today but i can barely put the spoon in my mouth.

it's normal plus you should not be eating any solids.
Reply:This is completely normal. Advil will probably help reduce the swelling.
Reply:When I had mine done (all 4 at age 15) I felt fine right after, I think it was all the drugs, no pain. The next day for a couple days actually I swelled up like a giant chipmunk, it was ridiculous looking and uncomfortable. I don't remember what I did to help the swelling, probably ice.

I also had vomitting for about a day or so, yes I think it was the pain meds, and didn't feel much like eating for awhile. If you aren't hungry I think its ok to go easy on the food for a few days, even if you're thin a couple days won't hurt you. If you do feel hungry I would try to take filling liquids and wait till the pain goes down before you try solids. You know try milk, buttermilk, protein drinks, blended fruit smoothies - you can put oatmeal in those to make them more filling.
Reply:Oh My... I feel for you.. I had all 4 of mine done about 3 years ago. I had massive swelling and bruising. I found heat to be more effective for the swelling. And it went down in 2 days. I had trouble eating as well, as I couldn't open my mouth very far due to stiffness. I had part of my lower jaw cut out with my two lower wisdoms because they were fused to the jaw bone. I found myself making a lot of breakfast drinks (especially the Carnation Instant breakfast) for some nourishment. The most I can recommend is to just hang in there. It is not the most pleasant procedure to have done. Eat whateveryou are comfotable eating, and take it slow.
Reply:this is normal. Keep ice on it for 15-20 mintues than off for about 30-45 mintues. Also you can take an OTC anti-inflammatory like alieve to help with the swelling and the pain. If your doctor gave your any meds you need to check with him/her before taking any OTC med.

As far as keeping foods down... if you can't eat anything make sure that you are drinking water. You can even just suck on ice chips. If your stomach is upset you shouldn't be eating yogurt that could make it worse because of the active cutures in it. Try eating a light brooth based soup. Once that stays down you can slowly move toward more solid food like crackers next and so on.
Reply:It's very normal. It takes that long to swell. Did your dentist say you could take Advil? That would help a lot, but be sure to ask if its ok to take it first.

Be sure not to use a straw to drink anything. It can make the pockets start to bleed again.

You will be fine in a couple more days.
