i had my wisdom teeth cut out and have stiches they said they would fall out in ten days and its been over two weeks and they still have not!! i know that they are dissolving stiches but will i have to have them removed
Impacted wisdom teeth removal stiches?
If it's been over two weeks, they should have dissolved. Call your dentist, they can schedule a quick 5 minute appointment to remove them for you.
It's possible that these aren't disposable sutures, they may be causing some discomfort from being left too long. I would not suggest that you pull on them, let your dentist take care of this, painlessly.
Reply:I would call your oral surgeon. When I had my wisdom teeth out they did not use dis-solvable stitches and I had to go back and have them removed.
Reply:It always depends on a person's own body mechanics.
Generally speaking most sutures WILL dissolve in 7-10 days though it is possible for them to dissolve sooner and known to take longer in some cases.
Sometimes they may look like they haven't dissolved but under the skin line they may be dissolved.
If it has been over 2 wks,I would suspect that if you gave those sutures a tug they will come right out because they have dissolved below the gum line and they have remained undisturbed and just haven't fallen out on their own. . . . and NO,it won't hurt.
The sutures might drag alittle as you tug on them but there won't be any pain unless they aren't dissolved,at which point you need to call the Dr that took out your wisdom teeth.
Reply:mine were there for a month
Reply:Call your dentist immediatly!! You should have gone in for a post-op visit within 10 days of the extraction. If you don't have this addressed very soon, you will have bigger problems to deal with.
