I have impacted wisdom teeth that i'm sure need to be removed. the thing is..im terrified of dentists and doctors and especially needles. im DEFINITELY going to be completely asleep when i get the procedure done.
i was just wondering if anyone has heard or gone through a procedure where they knock you out FIRST before anything... without putting a needle in your mouth or an IV in your arm. i'm already going to be absolutely terrified about the fact that some guy is going to be cutting open my gums and yanking out teeth....i know if they try to give me a needle or an IV i'll have a panic attack...i already cry hysterically everytime i get a shot at the doctors. the sad thing is im 18 but its just this huge phobia of needles i can't get over.
so is there anyway to do it by being put to sleep first and then having the novocaine needle? if i knew that then i would feel a lot better about the whole procedure...
Wisdom teeth removal??
i had mine out like 3 weeks ago and my mom went to the dentist (im only 14) and said that she was scared that i was going to have a panic attack and he prescribed me somthing like valleum (sp) to take before i even got to the dentist and it was like i was asleep the whole time. i only remember waking up at like 2 pm swollen so go and ask if they can give you somthing for your worries
Reply:I have the same problem and in order for them to knock you out they have to put the IV in.. but really i was in such a tizzy that i didn't notice... It really isnt that bad though and i totally understand where you are coming from.. tell them that you don't want to see the needle at all.. thats actually when i freak out is when i see it... You;d be surprised at how much it doesn't hurt when you don't see it.. I wish you all the luck in the world and don't forget to breath
Reply:when i had it done they first put a IV in my arm then use that to give you the drug (sodium penathol ) to put me to sleep. i didn't feel a thing i went out like a light. no needle in you mouth. at least not when i had it done totaly painless just some swelling afterwards
Reply:As wisdom teeth grow after age 18..there is almost no place for it to grow %26amp; it can harm the other teeth %26amp; jaws..so u have to remove it.But u can tell your dentist to use zaidocaien spray on your gum before injection it really reduces the pain.
If your dentist is expert it wont take long that he can pull out the tooth ...
For a couple of days it is hard to eat %26amp; chew...u may use a small tea pot instead of straws to have your soup....water
or juices... do not be afraid.%26amp; good luck
Reply:I had impacted wisdom teeth myself and like you, I too was very nervous and anxious. First, it is not as bad as many may claim. Within two hours after having mine done (and the Novocaine had already worn off) , I was at a mall eating pizza. Some people have a lot of pain afterwards, but from those who advised me before my procedure, only one out of six had issues with moderate to severe pain. So do not worry.
What I suggest is that you ask the dentist to give you a little "laughing gas" (nitrus oxide I believe it is called) before giving you the needle. I had that when I had my procedure, because like you, I hate needles. I felt so light headed and at peace from the gas, that I didn't really notice the needle. It felt like a bee had gotten in my mouth and stung me for a split second, but it was so fast that when I realized I felt the stung, the needle was already out of my mouth.
Get plenty of rest the night before your procedure, and make sure to make the experience "something to remember" (like make a little two page scrap book, in which you write your concerns and feelings before, and right after the procedure, and then a day or two later-- something to look back on). But if you see it as an experience or adventure, it puts it in a new perspective and takes the fear right away.
Good luck to you, and please let us know how it turns out.
