Impacted wisdom tooth. pleeeeease help!?

this question is for my little sister... she just found out that her wisdom tooth is growing in sideways BENEATH the bone and affecting all her other teeth along her lower jaw. my question is, is it normal for the tooth to grow under the bone? the dentist said that he had never seen anything like that and had to refer her to someone else. she is terrified and i was hoping i could help find some info for her. if anyone knows what the procedure entails, please do tell! also, will this hurt much and is it possible for my sister to permanently injure/break her jaw from this? thank you so much in advance.

Impacted wisdom tooth. pleeeeease help!?
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and have seen this hundreds of times. And no the jaw does NOT break ot ANY permanent injury or millions of people right now would be maimed. This rarely if ever has happened and I have never had it happen in my office. This problem is called a rotated fully impacted wisdom tooth and Oral Surgeons remove them all day long. I don't know where your dentist went to school, but he needs so take some more courses.

The removal is simple but painful for 1-2 days and sore for several days up to a week. However once it is done, it is over.

The Oral Surgeon will put your sister to sleep, the procedure takes about 20 minutes and when she wakes up she will be clueless that anything happened.

The first 24 hours are the most important. Lots of ice packs to the face and take pain meds as prescribed. Do not cheat. NO rinsing, eat ice cream and cool, cold soft foods or smoothie drinks. After 24 hours beging to rinse with very salty warm water to remove left over blood and start healing. After 2 days she can have more different foods, but again soft and NOT chewy or sticky. Continue rinses for 3-4 times a day and from day one sleep with an extra pillow. Relax and watch TV and try to sleep the first day. NO lifting or pulling anything over 10 pounds for 3 days. After 5 days slowly return to a normal eating but NO pizza crust, bagels or sticky gums, candy or food. In one week she will feel find and after that this is a former memory. If you have any other questions, please ask. I promise she will be fine. Marie
Reply:It will hurt a little bit because he will have to go in and cut the tooth out and I had the same thing happen to me. Yes, the dentist might have to break her jaw but it won't be permanent. All the Dentists would refer her to a specialist because she will need to be sedated more than for a normal procedure. This is a surgery.
