Wisdom Teeth Come out April 20th, What to do about the pain until then?

I have an appointment to have my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on April 20th. (the day after my birthday, FUN!)

I don't have the $2400 saved up to do it, (will probably get a loan) so i need to save every dime i can until then.

Hopefully won't have to finance all of it.

Are there any cheap/free ways to dull the pinching/pain/ache, of the teeth until i have them pulled out?

Also, i have the option of pill sedation or IV. Pill is $130 and IV is $400. Is it worth the extra money to get the IV? I'm on a very tight budget.

thanks,

For the pain you have now try putting whole cloves in your mouth and hold them in the gum and tooth area that hurts and they will numb it all out. You get the cloves in the spice and seasoning section of the market.

For the after -pain, I would get the pills so you will have something at home until you dont hurt. Make sure you can deal with the pills without throwing up though. The medicine is codeine based opiates like Vicodin, percocet, percodan, Tylenol #3, they do make some people barf and then they have to take a suposetory.

Also get off them just as soon as you can handle it on your own. They are addicting and hard to stop if yo stay on them over 14 days.

If you take them before the procedure, you may want to take two doses 4 hours apart before the procedure to know what you are going to feel like and if you can drive and if you get sick or not. Plus it will be in your system already . It will be less anxious if you already know they make you painless before you actually have the pain. Any abuse of the drugs , you will end up paying dearly for it.

There is a legit website discount card for the pharmacy called rxdrugcard.com. It can give you discounts on your meds up to 50 % . I used it . It cost me $4.95 for one month and it saved $80 off my medication. it can be had at Http://www.rxdrugcard.com and it is too good to be true, but it is no scam. I went for it and it worked great.
Reply:Guided meditation is a very inexpensive alternative.
Reply:I would take a lot of ibuprofen and eat a lot of soft food until then. I know it doesn't sound too thrilling, or even satisfying at that, but you have to do what you have to do, it's part of life. As for the IV/Pill question. I understand money is tight, but I have had a tooth extracted with a local (where they numb you very well, but do not put you to sleep) and it wasn't so much the pain, but the anxiety that the thought of them jerking a tooth out of my mouth with those scary tools that you think you only see on horror films like that movie The Dentist right in front of your face that really start to ance you up. I would suggest the IV, expensive, but better than what seems almost like torture.
Reply:when I was younger, one wisdom tooth bothered me ; the dentist wanted to take out all four; I said just the one; years later I found out that I never had any on the top ; the new dentist told me ; they are bone and bone shows up on xray; you don't have them , you never did and never will so the other dentist was lying to me and was going to splice my gums , stitch them, charge me for cutting me for no reason; I would only take out the one that is bothering me now. Advil helps?? Don't let them milk you dry. Everyone including dentists has bills to pay, insurance, children to put through college etc; be careful
Reply:I was IV sedated. I didn't even know they did it. I'd say it was worth it, but I don't know if the pill sedation is as good or not.

Have you tried anbesol or some other topical teething gel? That may help a little. The dentist who is doing the extraction may be able to write you aprecription for something better, like a painkiller.

Good luck.
Reply:I do not like pain, so IV is the best. Also use Aleve for pain while you wait. I have to take 3 at a time and they kill all the pain.
Reply:Be careful with all the ibuprofen suggested in the previous answers...check with the oral surgeon before you would take any meds with aspirin content.
Reply:i recently had the same problem with wisdom teeth.. i had to wait a year for dental to kick in from work or pay out of pocket LOTS of money... i found for that year i lived on orajel and advil DAILY... when it got toooooo bad i went to see the dentist and they gave me antibiotic and pain killers .... i really hope this helps ease the pain some.. and trust me once its done you'll be SO happy and pain free .... i did IV for the fact i had a fear of dentists, plus i felt, seen or heard NOTHING... next thing i knew they were waking me up to go home
Reply:i had to have my 4 wisdom teeth removed a few years ago (2 were impacted and 2 weren't). I was given IV sedation- I was offered IV, local anesthesia (novacaine shot into the gums- I would have received a total of 16+ shots in the gums), or nitrous oxide (laughing gas). I've never heard of pill sedation honestly, so I can't give my opinion on that. with the IV sedation, I remember that I felt no pain after the surgery until almost 12 hours afterwards- so either I was still kinda 'doped up' on anesthesia or they gave me pain medication in my IV before I was woken up. I know with the IV, the extra cost comes from monitoring- they have to monitor vitals closely when you are that sedated. Hope this helps and good luck, you should be fine.

About the pain until then, something like orajel may work, that and something like Aleve - works 12 hours with 1 pill; or if it gets unbearable, you may have to get an earlier appt.
Reply:Get all the drugs u can!!!! That was the WORSE thing i have ever been through in my entire life!!! I don't mean to scare you i just wish someone had warned me before i had it done. Bless your heart i feel for ya!!! I wish you all the best!!!!
