I Just got my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed this morning?

it wasnt as bad as i was expecting and once the pain killer kicked in i feel almost no pain. i have to keep gauze in because its still a mix of blood and spit and i just keep absorbing it with gauze rather than spit- i am mostly worried about dry sockets.

my bottom teeth were stitched up- can i still get a dry socket even if its stitched up? and besides drinking from straws and hard food (im a non smoker) is their any other advise any has for me... when can i expect to feel better... is it a good idea to start icing today? im just very paranoid and want to take the best care of these!

thanks alot!

relax. i'm surprised you're awake enough to type actually. you can ice today if you want but most of the swelling will happen tomorrow and the next day. keep your mouth clean and don't spit for a few days. that, along with what you're already doing should be enough to keep you from any problems.
Reply:I would suggest to relax and put ice on your mouth to bring the swelling down and so you won't have to move your muscles in your mouth and hurt your self and go through a lot of pain.
Reply:You should eat something (jello, mashed potatoes, something soft) so that you can take the pain killers without getting sick.

I wouldn't worry about a dry socket if you're not in pain now. dry socket is usually when it doesn't stop hurting with the pain meds.

Ice is a good idea for the first three days, after that use heat or nothing, because the ice actually slows down the healing process.

After the first 24 hours, try to clean your mouth as much as you can, but don't disturb the stitches. good luck!
Reply:Just keep doing what your doing and they should heal quickly. If you let the pain killer wear off I promise you it feels like you were hit with a sledge hammer, the throbbing pain is horrible so keep up with that!

I had two lower impacted wisdom teeth removed. is it normal to bleed little when gently rinsing with saltwater

i had my teeth removed 3 days ago..when i rinse gently with salt water in morning theres little brown spit in water (sorry to gross anyone out). my parents say it is normal and i have no elevating pain but i was wondering if it is normal. also does anyone know how to brush teeth because my face is really swollen so i cant brush my upper teeth and im afraid i might get cavities. any comments would be appreciated! :)

I had two lower impacted wisdom teeth removed. is it normal to bleed little when gently rinsing with saltwater
Yeah that's normal. My widsom teeth still bled little bits up to a week after my surgery. Just brush your teeth slowly and as best u can, if it hurts, just brush a little and use lots of mouth wash. the swelling will go down in a couple days and then u can brush them better.
Reply:use peroxide and vinger water
Reply:its normal, brush very carefully, but you prob wont get a cavity in a couple weeks just from less than perfect brushing! And salt water is fine and natural germ killer. Peroxide i would not put that in my mouth!!!
Reply:YES, use at least a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water.
Reply:Light bleeding for upto 24 hours is normal. However, control of bleeding. A pack made from a damp folded sterile gauze pad should be placed over the bleeding wound, under firm biting pressure. It is important that this pack stay in place, under pressure, to control bleeding and to encourage clot formation for 15 minutes by the clock. If the bleeding has not stopped when the original pack is removed, place a new gauze pad over the extraction site and exert pressure by biting for another 15 minutes. If you run out of gauze packs, tea bags are good. Report persistent bleeding to your dentist.

Pain control. You should not take medication that contains aspirin if you are experiencing any post-operative bleeding.

Encouraging healing. After the first 24 hours, it is advisable to rinse gently with very warm salty water every two hours (one level teaspoon of salt to a small glass of very warm water). Do this for 3-4 days.

Severely impacted wisdom teeth will it hurt?

both of my upper ones are severely impacted so what does that mean? my dentist also said he never seen them up that high and that they are big well i am going to get them (4) out i think they are all impacted i was having tmj discomfort. my question is .. is it going to hurt while getting them out i am getting just numbed in the mouth i will be awake do they put a mask on you to calm you down? and would they put me under iv sedation if they find out they are really bad? my aunts roots were in here sinus cavitey ouch... well any info would help my nerves... i have them done september 28th. thank you

Severely impacted wisdom teeth will it hurt?
I highly recommend that you get sedated. I was sedated and I woke up with my dentist up on the chair hammering trying to dislodge my wisdome teeth.

I have found that novicane (sp?)gives me a rush.
Reply:Depends on the doctor. You should ask him how he likes to prepare you. My husband was completely knocked out and had no pain but he was very dopey from the anesthesia. I had a local anesthetic which prevented me from feeling dopey, but the downside to that is that I could hear everything going on and had to consciously keep my mouth open all that time - the muscles in my jaw cramped up....ooo, it was awful. My advice would be to get knocked out, and be sure to get ice packs and Tylenol ready - in fact, bring the ice packs to the dr's office with you. You will swell.
Reply:Everyone is different, and your dentist will probably offer you a choice of local (numbing) or general (gas) anesthesia. It won't hurt while you're teeth are extracted, but you'll feel pressure. Mine were impacted, and it really hurt after the anesthesia wore off. You may experience less pain than I did.
Reply:Mine were impacted as well. Some dentists will knock you out. I on the other hand didn't have that luxury. I was in the Navy at the time. Impacted means they aren't growing in the right direction, mine were sideways and pushing all of my other teet forward. They gave me shots to numb and then broke them and took them out piece by piece. It sounds terrible but I didn't feel it at all. I could feel a little pressure when they were pulling but not like any pain what so ever. I could tell they were doing something, no pain. They will cover your face with a cloth. My dentist played really relaxing music and would check to make sure I was ok. Its not bad at all, just make sure you take every precaution not to get dry socket cause that is a little painful. No sucking on straws, cigerettes, etc. Your dentist will tell you all of that!
Reply:You should see an oral surgeon. Your dentist should not be attempting extractions of severely impacted wisdome teeth in his office under local anesthetic. Generally, if the teeth are "severely impacted" an oral surgeon would highly recommend sedation. Also, wisdom teeth do not generally affect tmj discomfort, as tmj (tempor mandibular jaw) is related most often to bruxing (grinding of your teeth). A professional dentist would most likely refer you to an oral surgeon for at least a consultation regarding your surgery. If the oral surgeon agrees to extract the teeth with local anesthetic (a shot), then you will not likely experience any pain during the procedure. You may have some discomfort afterwards, when the anesthetic wears off. Your dental professional will likely prescribe a pain reliever such as tylenol 3 or vicodin, that will manage your pain. Using a heating pad set on low can also help with healing and pain management. In five years as a dental assistant, I have never heard of anyone having severe pain during or after extraction of wisdom teeth. Good luck to you.
Reply:No more pain than the other normal ones to have removed. It's just the proceedure they use to remove them that is different. You might need more numbing is all.

Impacted simply means they did not come in normally, they may have come in sideways or at an improper angle.

You can choose to be sedated to have them out. I wish I had....my kids did though and they had no problems. they can give you gas to help you relax and stay calm....tell the dentist or oral surgeon about your fears and wishes and see what they can do for you.

it will hurt some afterward, but the dr should give you something for pain to take home and instructions on oral care till they heal up.

What's the worst that could happen with impacted wisdom teeth ?

I have all four wisedom teeth still, the top 2 came in when I was 22 with no real problems. BottomLeft has been coming in for 3 years now (very impacted) mostly come through now. BottomRight is past the jaw line now laying horizontal under the gum pressing on the rest of my teeth. I have trail like - blurry vision and my ears have extra wax for about 7 months now. I'm wondering if this could damage me for life or do you think it will go away when I finally get the bottom 2 removed ?

What's the worst that could happen with impacted wisdom teeth ?
impacted wisdom teeth can cause ur teeth to shift to some extent. if u have a wisdom that came out half way under teh gum then use a toothpick to clean out around the gum to help prevent an infection. bacteria can sip below the gum and cause inflammation and soarness. ur wisdom teeth have no affect on the wax build up and blurry vision.
Reply:All of your other teeth may fall out. Ask your dentist though because he should know.

How long does it take for impacted wisdom teeth to be removed?

My 16 yr old has to get all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed. I imagine she will be put out for it, as they are all still above the gum-line and haven't broken through. I was wondering how long the procedure took. I know it probably depends on how much work they have to do extracting them. Are we talking 1 hour? 2 hours? Anybody who has any idea? Thanks in advance!

How long does it take for impacted wisdom teeth to be removed?
Less than an hour. I got in at 11 and left before noon.

Yes, they should put her out. IV seems to be a common way.

It's an easy, quick procedure. I had mine out yesterday.

Be sure to bring a bucket and paper towels, because the anesthesia can make one very nauseous (I was lucky; I didn't feel a bit sick), and stock up on pure liquid soups.e
Reply:I had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth with bone removal cut out of my jaw 2 weeks ago. I only had a local anesthetic , and the entire procedure took less than 30 minutes .
Reply:IF A SKILLED ORAL SURGEONDOES IT ALL FROM STARTTO FINISH IT SHOULD TAKE ABOUT 1 HOUR OR LESS.
Reply:i had the same exact situation, they put me out, he said it would take about 45 minutes, make sure you have the pain killers when you get home, after you wake up there's no pain but in an hour or so you'll feel it, take the pain killers and you'll be fine

Just had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed.......................... need help........?

So I got out of my wisdom teeth surgery at about 10:45 pacific California time. It was about an hour long procedure. I have been changing the gauze for about every hour now and its about 3 hours later, so 3 changes later. I'm still getting a bit of blood on each gauze when I take them out, I know this is normal, just wondering if you leave the gauze out even if you can see about half of the gauze still bloody. Also, should I use gauze the next day if it is bleeding just a little bit? I also find it more comfortable to put pressure on the gauze to ease the pain of the one tooth hole on the right side where it hurts badly if I do not use the vicodin right away. Sorry if my message is scrambled, I am not in my exact mind right now with the vicodin and meds and all :0 lol.

~Thanks

Just had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed.......................... need help........?
You shouldnt need to use the guaze now...After a few hours, a clot should start to form where your teeth was and you DO NOT want that clot to come out...using gauze can make them come out...and that will be a very bad thing for you...

Do not use them tomorrow...a little bit of bleeding will not hurt you. Kinda spit it out if you need too...
Reply:It is normal to have some oozing over the next couple of days. You should be okay without the gauze right now, but if it really bothers you then place one on each side and just bite firm pressure on it for one hour. During that hour, no eating, drinking, or moving alot, when you exert yourself that can also cause the bleeding to start back up heavily. Good luck!

Can I drink after getting impacted wisdom teeth out?

I got my wisdom teeth surgically removed last Friday and unfortuantly got dry sockets. I have dressings in my two bottom areas for now b/c of the dry sockets. I don't really feel pain and am not on pain killers anymore.

Since it has been a week and 2 days, is it safe to drink? I would call my oral surgeon but since it is Sunday, they are closed. Thanks!

Can I drink after getting impacted wisdom teeth out?
Don't use a straw, it creates suction.
Reply:As long as you are NOT taking pain medications you will be ok.
Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth out yesterday. As for what you can drink afterwards, it depends what you mean by "drink".

If you mean alcohol: then absolutely not. The pain killers you're taking mix very badly with alcohol and can cause liver damage.

Here is the list of things they gave me that are ok to drink:

Sport/protein shakes, fruit juices, and lots of water

Also, do not use a straw, and only lukewarm or cold drinks.

Was your wisdom teeth impacted? Were you awake or asleep?

#1. When you had yout wisdom teeth removed where they impacted?

#2. Did you have them put you to sleep or stay awake?

#3. How long was your recovery?

#4. Did you do all 4 or just 1 or 2 at a time

Was your wisdom teeth impacted? Were you awake or asleep?
I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth. I was awake, the recovery was around a week. I don't exactly recall as it was a few years ago. I do remember not enjoying the first day of recovery at all.
Reply:OK, this is 25 year old data, so take it for what it is worth.

1. Two teeth were impacted

2. I was put to sleep. They gave me a choice and I opted to be out.

3. I was out of it for several days, especially with the Percodan

4. I was given a choice and opted to have all 4 out (especially since they didn't want to put me out twice, just once).
Reply:i don't think mine were impacted. i had the anaesthetic where i was put to sleep.

i think it took about 1-2 weeks to fully recover, but about 1 week for the pain to go away.

and i only had my bottom 2 removed b/c my dentist said those were the ones that could cause bigger problems (apparently they were growing weird).
Reply:Always have your wisdom teeth removed by a specialist oral %26amp; Maxillofacial surgeon. I have two horizontal impacted wisdom teeth and they need to be taken out. Is it serious ?

I'm 17 and i'm very bad dealing with pain. The doctor prefer i take all 4 wisdom teeth out at the same time. I was wondering what the precedure is going to be like and how long the whole process is going to take. Also, i would like to know the recovery process and is it going to be as painful as braces? Thx guyss...

I have two horizontal impacted wisdom teeth and they need to be taken out. Is it serious ?
horizontally impacted just means that the wisdom tooth has got a bit lost...instead of erupting straight up, its positioned wrong and moving horizontally. its only a problem when the wisdom tooth starts pressing on the next tooth. dentists generally suggest taking them out to prevent this risk. you will referred to a oral surgery department at hospital for a consultation. they may not need to put you under general anaesthetic, but as your nervous it might be more suitable. after discussing this and gaining consent you will be sent home to wait for the appointment for the extractions. its day surgery, and you'll be sent home the same day. normal post extraction care...no excessive exercise, smoking, drinking, spicey food for 24hrs as exercise gets your blood pumping, alcohol is an anticoagulant. smoking dries out the sockets where the teeth were causing a nasty condition called localised ostietis/dry socket which requires further treatment. spicey food can cause aggravation of the tissue. dont rinse or swill your mouth as this can dislodge blood clots casuing the same condition as smoking. you may feel a little sore after but just use normal painkillers. but not aspirin as it is an anticoagulant again and will thin your blood and prevent clotting. you'll soon be up and about, and after a few days you probably won't even notice the teeth have gone!
Reply:You'll be put under. So you won't feel a thing. After you might be sore but they'll give you some meds. You will need to eat soft foods for a couple of days. If you have had braces this is a good thing to do, because the wisdom teeth can push all the nicely aligned teeth out of place again. All three of my kids went through it and did great! Two of them even had all 4 pulled out at once. It sounds worse than it is. And some people will try and freak you out. Don't let them. its a great excuse to have your family pamper you for a couple of days. (ie Ice Cream) Good Luck
Reply:Horizontal is not good and something tells me at your age weather upper or lower, and being horizontal opposed to vertical

that you are going under anaesthetic either way. So I wouldn't be concerned of pain. I'm not sure about your braces being put back

S.A.P. as there will be swelling, maybe few days, pain absolutely

Dr. knows that and will give you prescribed medication, as he/she feels necessary, as for an adult this is under r jaw or upper, he/she'll be quite aware of the pain you'll endure. I've been through a similar surgery %26amp; pleasant not

Should I get my impacted wisdom teeth removed?

Lately the gums above my wisdom teeth have felt kind of strange. Not so much painful as they are itchy....like I want to chew on things back there. (Almost as if I'm teething)

It doesn't hurt or anything...it's just an annoying feeling. I can feel them underneath my gums. Should I get them removed? I'm not sure if it would be worth the money and/or pain.

Also, how much does it generally cost to do? (I don't have Dental Insurance)

Thanks : )

Should I get my impacted wisdom teeth removed?
I don't know how much it will cost, because I had dental insurance when it was done. i can assure it's probably around 100-300.00 a tooth to extract. It also depends if you are going under or going to be awake.

However, I got all 4 wisdoms taken out when the one on the bottom left was coming in wrong affecting my whole mouth. I would get them pulled, it's not work the pain, and it's not going to change the way you live or chew your food.

Also I would advise, if you have the money, to get them all taken out at the same time, even if the others aren't bothering you. It's a possiblity they will be bothering you later and you will have to go through the process all over again.

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I received impacted wisdom teeth removal a few years back. Do you have any health insurance?...because if the teeth are still impacted some insurance policies consider it a surgical procedure which they will cover. If not the whole procedure will cost roughly $2000. Extraction costs for impacted wisdom teeth are significantly higher than for erupted wisdom teeth.
Reply:i am having wisdom teeth removed next friday....@ $1800.00 for all 4 and being put completely out
Reply:If you have a gorgeous smile and don't want your teeth to shift when your wisdom teeth do actually erupt, then have them removed by a certified Oral Surgeon, a general dentist doesn't usually have the technical experience to removed impacted '3rds', dental term for wisdom teeth. The cost is based on your desire to have local or general anesthesia, I would go for general, expect to pay about 2000-2500

tell me exctatally what it is like getting yuor wisdom teeth out

Having all for impacted wisdom teeth out tommarrow and want to know what i can eat after the surgery?
i was so doped up when i had them out (about 7 years ago) that all i remember was playing playstation.

didnt have any pain issues.

soreness and the aggravation of having stitches in your mouth was the problem.

1st day i took it easy with a liquid diet, 2nd day a small amout of solid food. within the 3rd day my diet was back to normal.
Reply:Liquids only for at least the first 2-3 days, just depending on how you are (and how impacted the teeth were). So load up on the soups today at the store! Then mushy foods for a couple days after that (mac and cheese, rice, mashed potatoes, etc). You really won't have much pain!! It's just uncomfortable and you may have bruising and swelling! Good luck!!

My dentist diagnosed me with impacted wisdom teeth. If I have the removal surgery, what am I in for?

The dentist said that my wisdom teeth are decaying. He referred me to an oral surgeon. It is curious. None of my other teeth are decaying. Could this be a cash grab? Or is it more a matter that my toothbrush can't reach my wisdom teeth to clean them? What will the recovery be like from the surgery?

My dentist diagnosed me with impacted wisdom teeth. If I have the removal surgery, what am I in for?
Impacted wisdom teeth are very common, and should be removed or you may face some very serious problems later. In fact, wisdom teeth probably have no practical use....sort of like the appendix. Some dental historians think wisdom teeth (3rd molars) are really just a leftover set of teeth from our prehistoric ancestors when jaws were bigger. In prehistoric times, people needed to tear, rip and chew meat to a much greater extent than modern man, so evolution of the head and jaw shape, and our eating habits have pretty much eliminated the need for 3rd molars. Because they often cause extreme crowding in the jaw, and get tipped and impacted when they are first coming in...and combined with the difficulty in keeping them clean, most wisdom teeth are destined to be removed. Modern oral surgeons are excellent at reducing associated pain with wisdom teeth removal, and recovery. Follow your dentist's advice and have them removed.
Reply:if your teeth are impacted, they will slowly shift the rest of your teeth, making your mouth more crowded, plus it can also be painfull when they are shifting. They usually need to come out.
Reply:If they are impacted that means they have not emerged from the gums yet. The chances of them edecaying are slim to none, but they can become infected, and abcessed. You should have them removed as soon as you get the chance and not wait; Like I did. The pain can be unbearable. As far as the surgery goes, you have 2 options. To be sedated or be awake. I was put to sleep; my dnetist insisted he would not pull my teeth without it. The recovery was not too bad; you get plenty of pain killers.
Reply:painful at best :)
Reply:sure must be soo!

one week!
Reply:PAIN... A LOT OF PAIN
Reply:A Day or two off from work!!!!

Don't for get to buy soup.
Reply:Never hurts to get a second opinion, but most of the time this recommendation is valid. Get them out. Always easier to be put to sleep for the operation...

Best case, you'll be eating McDonald's the next day...not so great case, it might take a week before you're eating normally again. The key is to drink a ton and get adequate nutrition if you can't eat normally at first....meal replacements like Ensure are a boon. There's all kinds of web sites with tips on recovery from this type of surgery...just google it.
Reply:You and I seem to be in the same boat! My dentist told me that she wants to cut all four of my wisdom teeth out because if they do push through the gums one of them will grow in at a slight angle and sit against my back molar and she said because of that there is a possibility that I will develop a cavity and/or infection. I'm 22 years old and my wisdom teeth have never bothered me. I've thought about doing it just to get it over with but I'm like you...is it all really just for the money? My sister-in-law just had her wisdom teeth cut out and she said it was very painful but they give you good drugs!
Reply:I would listen to your dentist and get them taken out. I had mine done, all 4 at the same time. They put me to sleep to do it. Recovery was not too bad. I was up and about the next day. Pain killers were great. You may want to stock up on soup and pudding and soft foods. Also, I had a lot of swelling. My face is usually really thin and I looked like a chipmunk for about a week. There was some bruising in the jaw line afterwards too.
Reply:I had 3 pulled because they were half out, and the last one cut out. Sure there is pain. I was not knocked out. In fact had my dentist insisted on it, I would have found a new dentist. I've been knocked out surgery, and it takes hours to get the grogginess out of your system. Plus anesthesia has more risks than a local. The Novocaine numbed it fine. But it depends on your pain threshold. I had a prescription of Darvocet for the pain, but that messes with your head, so I don't recommend it unless you have a low threshold for pain. I did fine with just 400 mg ibuprofen every 4 hours, although that last half hour was a little uncomfortable.

You might find it easier to have the teeth removed from one side of your mouth one time and the other 2 removed a few months later. At least one side of your mouth would be functional more quickly than if you get all done at once.
Reply:it really hurts!!!!! and the stiches suck!!!! but, i lost a lb or 2 so i guess it was okay!!!
Reply:my wisdom teeth weren't out of the gum when I had them surgically removed because there weren't space in my mouth for them.

but be sure to go for one side of your face first and then after it has heeled go for the other side because your cheeks will swell and it would hurt like hell after surgery. i couldn't chew anything, so I only had soups and shakes. after the surgery on the same day I had a runny mouth :D

I had to put a towel on my pillow to go to sleep because of the watery blood that comes out.

I don't remember how long it took for the swelling to go away, but I think it was over a week.
Reply:don't get too excited thinking you are getting an anaesthetic,i had mine done with cocaine and it really hurt.in fact the dentist told me off for being soft!!i had them cut out and gums stitched afterwards.expect pain and lots of it.i pity you.
Reply:Everyone's situation is different. Don't be afriad, See a dental surgeon!

The recovery is HORRENDOUS but it's worth it as you'll not have to worry about them again. All of the people I've talked to who have recovered in days have NOT had impacted wisdom teeth so be prepared for a lot of pain and agony. I had dry sockets in all four extraction sites and I do not smoke or use a straw. Just bad luck. It's been 3 weeks since my surgery and I am still on soft foods and experiencing pangs of pain the past few days but it will get better eventually. Make sure to follow your OS' instructions in detail and definitely get nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or get knocked out for it. If you can get some painkillers from your OS for right after the surgery on hand, that is ideal as well.

I highly recommend you do it and get it over and done with. Good luck!

I had impacted wisdom teeth and got them all out and its been 3 wks now and i still have bad headaches.i am 16
Its probably from them keeping your jaw opened for awhile. You can go to walmart or CVS and get one of those heat wraps for your neck but use it on your jaw muscles, wrap it around your face. It will relax the tmj.

This happend to me...the pain never went away...turned out i needed jaw surgery. Use the heat wrap and see how that goes.

Good luck
Reply:You may wish to consult a nurse as opposed to a neurologist, or maybe even an orthodontist.

But then impacted wisdom teeth extractions do a lot of damage. (I remember mine).

Impacted wisdom teeth removal stiches?

i had my wisdom teeth cut out and have stiches they said they would fall out in ten days and its been over two weeks and they still have not!! i know that they are dissolving stiches but will i have to have them removed

Impacted wisdom teeth removal stiches?
If it's been over two weeks, they should have dissolved. Call your dentist, they can schedule a quick 5 minute appointment to remove them for you.

It's possible that these aren't disposable sutures, they may be causing some discomfort from being left too long. I would not suggest that you pull on them, let your dentist take care of this, painlessly.
Reply:I would call your oral surgeon. When I had my wisdom teeth out they did not use dis-solvable stitches and I had to go back and have them removed.
Reply:It always depends on a person's own body mechanics.

Generally speaking most sutures WILL dissolve in 7-10 days though it is possible for them to dissolve sooner and known to take longer in some cases.

Sometimes they may look like they haven't dissolved but under the skin line they may be dissolved.

If it has been over 2 wks,I would suspect that if you gave those sutures a tug they will come right out because they have dissolved below the gum line and they have remained undisturbed and just haven't fallen out on their own. . . . and NO,it won't hurt.

The sutures might drag alittle as you tug on them but there won't be any pain unless they aren't dissolved,at which point you need to call the Dr that took out your wisdom teeth.
Reply:mine were there for a month
Reply:Call your dentist immediatly!! You should have gone in for a post-op visit within 10 days of the extraction. If you don't have this addressed very soon, you will have bigger problems to deal with.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

I'm having my wisdom teeth removed on the 27th.

i'm 15 =) any tips and reminders?

thanks

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
Do exactly what the dentist tells you to do and you'll heal quickly.
Reply:im getting mine removed on the 27th also but im 20 lol

just do what they tell you.

Deal with the pain. Youll be alright
Reply:don't use a straw or smoke until they heal or you may get dry sockets.

i had mine removed when i was 20 and everything turned out fine. i actually went back to work the next day.

you'll do fine!!! good luck
Reply:Yes do exactly because if you get dry sockets its going to hurt ten times worse.
Reply:will not be problem jaw may be a little sore you will be fine in no time
Reply:I had 3 removed. Eat everything you want before going. You wont be able to eat much afterwards for at least 5 days. Dont be nervous, just think its only one tooth, I had 3 pulled out on the same side. Ouch. Use purified water the first few days to gargle and dont swish it in your mouth too hard, just move your head side to side. You will be fine.
Reply:well you're lucky your 15! dont stand up too fast right after you wake up from it all. i attempted to drive home. bad idea. BUT you dont have to worry about that. frozen juice or smoothies make for a good meal after

Can Impacted Wisdom Teeth Cause Canker Sores?

I've been getting what I think is a canker sore in the exact same place for about six months now. It is on the inside of the back of my gum, where my wisdom teeth should be coming in. My molars on that side hurt quite bad and I get headaches when I get these canker sores. Is it possible that my wisdom teeth are causing me to get canker sores or is it a completely different problem?

Can Impacted Wisdom Teeth Cause Canker Sores?
Any kind of stress can trigger canker sores. I think it is more likely though that you have an ongoing infection that flares up. Sometimes when wisdom teeth come in, there will be a "pocket" along the gumline back there where bacteria set up housekeeping. You should let a dentist take an xray and see what's going on. He will also check to see if there's an infected pocket. He can clean out the area and advise you what to do next. You don't want to just let it go because if it's been occurring already for 6 months, it's probably not gonna go away. Also I'm sure you don't want it to get worse. Worse problems are also more expensive to fix, by the way. So it would be good to get it checked and prevent a bigger problem. All the best-- and it's really good you asked this question!

Horizontal impacted wisdom teeth angled out slightly to chin now 1/2 decay. dentise adv not to remove....?

...it cos judging fm x-ray, it will cause temporary to permament damage on nerves to my left side of face. Gum covers 70% of it and that's the area that decay. The 30% exposed has been kept well. Dentise adv only if it gets worse, then need to consider to take out the one before it, let the wisdom teeth come out a bit more so lesser risk of damaging the nerve....where shall i seek 2nd opinion? Is it feasible to have the exposed area drilled, so that I can at least keep the 'leftover' of the wisdom teeth clean to avoid surgery that will damage the nerve???

Horizontal impacted wisdom teeth angled out slightly to chin now 1/2 decay. dentise adv not to remove....?
Definitely get a second opinion.
Reply:Thx for all yr comments. It's hard to find a trustworthy dental surgeon. Followed the dental surgeon adv, i am now using something like water pik to clean it and it seems fine. hope there is a smaller one which I can put in my handbag! Report It

Reply:Seek a 2nd opinion from another oral surgeon, perhaps even get a 3rd. There is often a risk when removing any impacted wisdom tooth of nerve damage.
Reply:Get a few opinions so you can make an informed choice.

I hope you find a really good dental surgeon who can do a brilliant job and you end up with zero problems!
Reply:You need to see an Oral surgeon. It is complicated and wort spending money on.

Should I get invisalign with impacted wisdom teeth?

I really don't want to go through the hassle of wisdom tooth removal if I don't need it. The only reason I was thinking of getting them removed was to free up space to straighten my teeth. However, I'm afraid that my wisdom teeth might move back after having my teeth straightened, and crowd my teeth again. And invisalign ain't cheap! Also I had always thought that it was my wisdom teeth that made my teeth crooked to begin with, but I have read that that was a myth. Is that true? I had braces as a kid, but my teeth became crooked around the same time my wisdom teeth came out.

I have an appt. for an extraction this week, and am having second thoughts.

Should I get invisalign with impacted wisdom teeth?
In my opinion it would be worth it to have your wisdom teeth removed because if it is the "cause" of the crooked teeth....then you wouldn't want to go through everything again.

If you don't have them removed and do the invisalign and it doesn't help...then you have to back up and have the teeth removed and have to do the invisalign all over. More hassle then it's worth. Good luck with your decision!
Reply:You need to get them extracted. Especially if they're impacted. Braces isnt going to help your wisdom teeth.
Reply:I would be surprised if you could find an orthodontist who would put invisalign on if you have impacted wisdom teeth. And since they're impacted, the best thing would be is to go to an oral surgeon, have him take the wisdom teeth, heal for a few weeks, then go to the orthodontist for a consult on the invisalign.
Reply:yeah, get those out.

Impacted wisdom teeth hurt?

my wisdom teeth have been trying to grow in for a yr. and my dentist said i needed them out. so my next 3 day weekend is when my mom said she is gonna make me get them pulled but right now my wisdom tooth hurts so bad. they are below the gum but it hurts so bad right now. what can i do????

Impacted wisdom teeth hurt?
All 4 of mine weere impacted I was told that for pain (before I had them taken out)to take Motrin and rinse my mouth with (sounds gross but I thought it worked)warm salty water .
Reply:take ibuprofen when it hurts but dont take for a long period, max a week. If you cant do it shortly then go ask ur dentist if he can prescribe you topic anestesics.
Reply:take a couple of asprin and get them pulled next long weekend. You don't need them anyway, they are sort of an evolutionary carryover fo days when we ate much tougher food.
Reply:yea sorry all you can do is take some tyleno or advil for a couple of days. hope you feel better.

Brushing teeth after 4 impacted wisdom teeth were extracted?

Should I avoid the areas all together or try to clean them? I had 4 impacted wisdoms removed Tuesday. So far, I have not been able to brush the molars farthest back in my mouth (just the ONE molar in the very back at each side of my mouth), but everything else I can comfortably get with some added effort and patience! I see some white crap (the same crap around the incision sites) on that back tooth on each side, but when I tried to see if it would come off with a Q-tip, it just hurt so I stopped immediately. I'm rinsing with salt water 4 X a day, but I'm worried about those molars farthest back on each side... should I be trying to brush them or just leave them be since the incision runs along the outside edge of them?

Brushing teeth after 4 impacted wisdom teeth were extracted?
Don't rub on it, it will bleed and it might get infected. The white crap is part of the healing process. Continue your oral antibiotics. Try to avoid the incision site when brushing. Gargle well with an antiseptic mouthwash like bactidol, orahex, or betadine. Saline gargle would be ok too.
Reply:The first couple of days after my wisdom teeth were removed, I didn't even bother with the teeth brushing. I just plain didn't care. I had all 4 removed last Tuesday (on the 16th). A couple of times I tried to brush my teeth, meh. I haven't tried the q-tips. But I did use paper towel... I'd wrap the paper towel around a finger and gently rub the tooths to get the plaque off. Soon enough though I shall try brushing again, now that all stitches have gone. The first couple times I tried to brush the back teeth resulted in some bleeding, and pain even. But the paper towel method didn't cause any problems for me.

I just had to do something to get rid of the "rough feeling" I had on my teeth, and the paper towel method was the only thing I could think of. Just rub it on the teeth, try to avoid the gum tissue in the back if you can, if you should try this method. Definitely leave the gum tissue alone so it can heal.

How long does it take to have out 3 impacted wisdom teeth under general anesthetic?

I'm going into hospital tomorrow, my appointment is at 8am and i'm have 2 badly impacted (they are growing horizontally, towards the front of my mouth) and one (normal growing) wisdom tooth out.

They are doing it under general anesthetic as they said it's quite a tricky job due to the type of impaction.

Has anyone else had this?

I want know roughly when i'll be allowed to leave the hospital (they say it isn't overnight but can't tell me how long it will take)

How long does it take to wake up from the anesthetic and then how long do they monitor you for?

How long does it take to have out 3 impacted wisdom teeth under general anesthetic?
I had 4 of my sideways impacted wisdom teeth out this summer, and it took about an hour (or so i was told-- i was asleep lol). I was allowed to leave pretty much as soon as i woke up although i was quite groggy and disoriented. U will definitely need someone to drive you home. Removing wisdom teeth is a common, routine procedure. Dn't worry everything will be fine!! Good luck to u!!
Reply:Not to scare you.....

But I had mine out couple months ago..

I don't know how long it took...maybe 2 hours tops.

I wasn't even aware of my surroundings when they shoved me out the door to my husband. No coat(middle of winter) and I didn't even meet the doctor.

Please be careful not to get dry socket!

Don't smoke(if you do)
Reply:When I woke up from my treatment, I sat there for about 10-15 minutes, and then they released me to the person that came with me. It doesn't take very long to wake up from the anesthetic, they just have to make sure you have your reflexes (you can walk/swallow some water) before you leave.

Usual Cost of Impacted wisdom teeth removal?

Hello, i currently live in CA and need to get my bottom two impacted wisdom tooth removed. They seem to be under the gum line. After getting an estimate about the cost to remove them, it came to about $1700 co pay with 300 paid by insurance. Is that the usual amount?

Thx for the help!

Usual Cost of Impacted wisdom teeth removal?
Get a consult with another Oral Surgeon. An HMO and PPO works very different. Check around, that sounds very high for extraction of two teeth with insurance.

Wisdom teeth impacted?

My bottom wisdom teeth have come in lying on their side, the top of the tooth is pressed right up against the side of the tooth next to it.

A small bit of the side and top of this impacted tooth is exposed, i can usually get a toothpick in between the sideways and normal tooth to clean out anything that gets stuck and i take extra care wehn brushing to make sure it is kept clean.

My brother had the same prob and got his removed, mine have been like this for about 5 years (im 26) and dont give me any trouble, im too scared to have them taken out. is it possible so long as im careful that they will not be a problem?

Wisdom teeth impacted?
Hi, I'm a dentist.

The short answer is no.

The reason for this is that no matter how diligent you are in your hygiene, you will not be able to keep it as clean as you think. You likely already have decay on that wisdom tooth, though you wouldn't know it. As you get older, periodontal disease will also become an issue around your second molars (the teeth in front of the partially exposed wisdom teeth). The longer you wait to have those teeth extracted, the more difficult it will be on your body, and the longer the healing process will take. Get it done now, while you're still relatively young and in your twenties. Every year you wait to have it done now, you can probably tack on an extra day of healing (if not more) once you do get it done. And make no mistake, a day will come when you absolutely do need to have these wisdom teeth extracted.

Good luck.
Reply:It is in all honesty likely to cause problems. You should have them taken out. You can be sedated or even go under general anesthesia. You wont feel much it will not be painful during the procedure but you will be sore for a few days to a week after.
Reply:I guess you never know if you clean them very well, if they will last a life time like that. It is still a very good possibility that they will get decay eventually, even if they stop growing through or pushing on other teeth. I understand your fears and sympathize. I'm going through the same thing. I wish you luck.
Reply:If I were you I would get that tooth extracted. If the tooth was completely under the gum it wouldn't be such a problem; but since some of the tooth is exposed I would just take it out. Even if you try to keep it really clean you will still pack food between the gum and tooth. And you might get a periodontal pocket between there. It might cause trouble with the tooth right next to it. So good luck with your decision.
Reply:The longer you wait the worst the surgery will be. It is best to get them taken out. My husband's were the same as yours and they started to decay. He had them taken out about three weeks ago. He had to have a bone graft and the doctor said it would be a pretty tough surgery because he was older. Overall I have to say it wasn't all that bad for him. It was a few days of being sore and not being able to eat solids but he really didn't complain too much. As long as he waited to take them out because he was scared I know he is relieved to have gotten this over with. Your best bet is to seek a really good surgeon and get these taken care of. I can say from my own personal experience it really wasn't all that bad. Good Luck!!!
Reply:I agree. I would say have them taken out. They may not be giving you problems right this second but continuing to constantly have to pick at it willl eventually cause your gums to get infected and could possibly cause more issues than just going ahead and getting them taken out before anything occurs. I always hear my mom say prevention is better than cure and it is the truth. I had all 4 of mine taken out a couple of years ago and I am fine. Mine, like your one, were lying on their side, but I am fine now. I would recommend laughing gas though. I had a consultation with my dentist before hand and he let me know everything he was going to do and he stuck to it. They gave me the laughing gas and then gave me some novacaine(sp) not too much but enough so that I would be ok until I could get some pain meds. BE CAREFUL. Do not smoke and do not use straws. Follow the directions they give you. I got a dry socket when I was recovering and it was the worst pain I have ever had to endure in my life, and I had twins, lol. I hope this helps honey let me know how it turns out! Oh yeah if you have the gas you can not drive yourself home.

2 Lower Impacted Wisdom Teeth, Dentist says TAKE OUT ALL 4?

I am 22 y/o male and having the procedure done tomorrow morning! I am dreading tomorrow to say the least, it will be my first surgery.

The X-Ray showed that my lower 2 wisdom are impacted, yet the top 2 have grown out normal. However, my dentist wants me to take out all 4 wisdom tooth!? I called the dentist and his secretary told me to ask him tomorrow since he was busy.

What is the rationale for taking out all 4 wisdom tooth when only 2 are growing out crooked? My dentist just suggesting this so that he can make more money off my insurance? Thanks to all those who reply!

2 Lower Impacted Wisdom Teeth, Dentist says TAKE OUT ALL 4?
i would do all 4 at one time. it's not that bad, just ask for some laughing gas, u'll want to stay all day. i don't even remember what it felt like, no horrible memories. however, i do remember getting my braces removed. no one told me how awful that would be. that was many moons ago. things have probably changed since then. it was all worth it.
Reply:When all four of mine were removed, an x-ray showed that all four (I was only having problems with two) were growing toward the roots of other teeth. The dentist's deduction was that eventually, all would have to come out anyway - why not take them out now? He did say there was a chance I wouldn't have had problems with the other two though. At this age (37) I have had problems with my teeth spreading out a bit (small gaps between a couple of teeth) because my wisdom teeth were holding the others in place. I figured the dentist knew best, though I semi-regret it now (minor irritance, nothing major). So, unless there is a definite problem with all four, there can be benefits to getting it all done now, or waiting...good luck! (:
Reply:NEVER take out all 4 wisdom teeth at once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could go into toxic shock (esp. if you're a male!) and die.

Some people are very sensitive to this procedure---One young man I read about in Dallas died from it. He was too poor to get a taxi to the Emergency Room, and an ambulance wouldn't take him, because he was suffering because of a dental procedure the previous day.

It's too late for him---it killed him.

Of course it's much easier for your Dentist to do all 4 at once---don't let him!!!!!!!!!

Insist on the safer procedure, which is to do 2 on one side of your mouth---let this heal, and go back for the other side in a week or two.

But, it's common practice to do all four wisdom teeth, eventually. They just serve no purpose in your mouth.
Reply:I'm sorry that you are dreading your oral surgery tomorrow. Removing all four wisdom teeth is common practice because:

1- They are way in the back and are difficult to clean

2- They are also very difficult to restore, because it is hard to get to them.

3- If only the lower wisdom teeth are removed, the upper wisdom teeth will not hit anything when you bite, and eventually will extrude, or grow down, and cause you problems later.

Your dentist is giving you a good recommendation, and it's much easier to go through this sort of thing when you are young. BTW, I am a dental assistant with 27 years of experience. You will be fine. Good luck tomorrow.
Reply:Ok, the person that said not to do all four is full of crap. They don't know what they're talking about.

I guarantee that your dentist isn't just trying to make money.

Trish was correct in the reasons she explained. Even second molars can be difficult to clean.

There is some risk whenever anesthesia is involved. However, complications are very, very rare. Have you ever had surgery before? Have you had any problems? This would be something good to talk to the anesthesiologist about when he or she comes to talk to you tomorrow. Share your concerns. That's why they're there too. To put your mind at ease.

Go ahead and have all four removed at once. I guarantee it will prevent a lot of problems down the road.

If you have any other questions, let me know!
Reply:I had all 6 of mine taken out at one time and I was fine. Sure I was in terrible pain but that is just how it goes when getting teeth taken out. I had 2 on the top and 4 of the bottom like you and they were all removed at the same time. It too was my first surgery and I had never been under anestassia before and I was just fine. I figured that I would rather get them all done and out of the way rather than having to go through it again. You will be fine.

Impacted wisdom teeth?

i have an impacted wisdom tooth its causing a lot of pain in the tooth next to it an in the gum can any one suggest anything to help with the pain either types of pain killers or alternative types of reliefe while im waiting to get appointment with dentist

any help will be greatfully recieved thanks.

Impacted wisdom teeth?
Ibuprofen is the best for dental pain, also rinse with luke warm salty water to keep the area clean. Then see your dentist as soon as, he might give you some antibiotics to keep you going until you have the tooth out.
Reply:Make sure the dentist you are making the appointment to, can remove the impacted tooth, this is not something general dentist do. I would suggest Advil or tylenol.. They will most likely put you on antibiotics before they can remove the tooth to get rid of the infection.
Reply:Sound like one of those that avoids going to the dentist. Do as the dental nurse says, but call today for an appointment. This is sort of an emergency. Good dentists don't like patients to be in pain and can usually see you soon. Don't put it off as it won't get better and can damage the other tooth.
Reply:i just went through the same thing. seriously. i took motrin for bout 3 days then it stopped completely. and yesterday i just had it pulled. soooooo either/or ibprof. or motrin, first time u take them though take bout 3 or 4. buttttttttt dont take to many cause asprin can thin ur blood and then you'll bleed alot when u get ur tooth pulled so a week b4 ur appt only take it for 3 days. that way u have 4 days for it to wear off.
Reply:solouble asprin on your finger neat and rub on the gum area that hurts!
Reply:ouch! until mine were removed for same reason the only painkiller that subdued it (none completely got rid of the pain if it's bad enough) was the ibuprofen liquid capsules, it acts faster than the rest i tried and more targetted. Good luck!
Reply:Clove oil, this is fairly inexpensive and keeps for a long time. You can also use it in several ways. You can mix with some water and use as a mouth wash. You can also dip a cotton bud in some clove oil and then apply directly to the painful area. Not the nicest taste but this really does work. You can but clove oil from any pharmacist or even supermarkets
Reply:You can try over the counter pain killers but it might be too late. It may be infected and if it is the over the counter stuff wont work. I dont know if you have made an appointment yet with the dentist but if you havent you need to right away and also tell them that you are in pain and think it may be infected. Ask them if they can prescibe an antibiotic for you to take while waiting for your appointment. That happened to me and I just called my dentist and they called the pharmacy right away with my prescription. I had put off getting my wisdom tooth taken out because I was scared. But when it started hurting like that I couldnt put it off any longer. I made the app. and to me it was better than going to the dentist. I fell asleep woke up and they were done. I personally didnt have to take the pain pills they gave me afterward. I just used a bag of peas on my jaw like they told me to for the swelling and later used something warm (as they told me too) Good Luck! AND call your dentist for that prescription and appointment!
Reply:try an over the counter mouth pain killerlike orajel can be found in local pharmacy

Why is there a lump on the side of my jaw two months after having impacted wisdom teeth extracted?

Two months ago I had four impacted wisdom teeth extracted. On the left side of my jaw, there is a marble sized lump that hurts when I apply pressure to it. The other side feels completely fine and all swelling has gone away. Although it is not extremely noticeable to most people, I can tell that the left side of my jaw has not returned to what it was pre-surgery, and this can be seen in photographs. What could possibly be causing this bothersome lump and swelling, two-months after surgery? The doctor told me the normal healing time for this surgery is 2-3 weeks. Is this a major problem and what can be done to alleviate it? I'm going to call both my dentist and my oral surgeon first thing tomorrow morning, because I no longer think that it is a normal part of the healing process. Any insights or possible explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Why is there a lump on the side of my jaw two months after having impacted wisdom teeth extracted?
1). I'm no Dentist

2). you are taking the correct and indicated actions..to call

and see your MD's.

3). I betcha a nickle it has a minor infection going...it does

need to be seen. Any fevers? Other swellings under

the site? Appear red? Pus?

4). The Docs will fix you up..don't worry, but do get it seen

so you don't suffer needlessly. Also, you don't want

an infection spreading....then things do get nasty.

Hope you feel better!
Reply:I would check back with the dentist, you are not healing as you should. Please keep me up to date with this problem.
Reply:Everything should have healed by now. It sounds like there is an infection at work here, kind of like an abscess. You should get in to see your dentist asap. Most likely, he or she will prescribe antibiotics that will get rid of the problem.
Reply:that sounds like an abcess which is a collection of pus that has accumulated in a cavity formed by the tissue on the basis of an infectious process It is a defensive reaction of the tissue to prevent the spread of infectious materials to other parts of the body.

. go to the dentist
Reply:it sounds like an abcess. it could just be a cavitation. i recommend going to a biologic dentist, though. i have a list of sites to look up one in your area if you need it. you also should get the cavitation cleaned.

here is what Frank Jerome, DDS has to say about it:

EXTRACTIONS

Extractions have to be done well. Normally they pull a tooth out, stick a piece of gauze in there and say bite on it. After the tooth is removed, the socket has to be completely cleaned so that complete healing can occur. If tissue such as torn pieces of ligaments or periosteum is left in the socket and covers the bone, the bone will tend to heal over the top, leaving a hole in the bone, and new bone cannot form. This hole can persist for the rest of the patient's life. It is a chronic infection that is called an alveolar cavitational osteopathosis or cavitation. This means that there is an infected cavity in the bone. These bone infections are only now being seriously researched. If they are fairly easy to prevent by proper socket cleaning, why is this not being done? But many if not most dentists have never heard of cavitations.

http://www.consumerhealth.org/articles/d...

CAVITATIONS

A cavitation is an unhealed hole in the jawbone caused by an extracted tooth [or a root canal or an injury to a tooth]. Since wisdom teeth are the most commonly extracted teeth, most cavitations are found in the wisdom tooth sites. Please see the graphic and photo below to get a glimpse of what may be in your mouth and the effects it is having. The photo and diagram demonstrate the destructive and pathologic consequence of a routine tooth extraction. Dentists are taught in dental school that once they pull a tooth, the patient's body heals the resulting hole in the jawbone. However, approximately 95% of all tooth extractions result in a pathologic defect called a cavitation. The tooth is attached to the jawbone by a periodontal ligament which is comprised of "jillions" of microscopic fibers. One end of each fiber is attached to the jawbone and the other end of the fiber is attached to the tooth root. When a tooth is extracted, the fibers break midway between the root and the bone. This leaves the socket (the area where the root was anchored in the bone) coated with periodontal ligament fibers.

There are specialized cells in the bone called osteoblasts. Osteoblasts make new bone. The word "osteoblast" means bone former. They are active during growth and maintenance. However, the periodontal ligament prevents the osteoblasts from filling in the tooth socket with bone since the periodontal ligament fibers lining the socket act as a barrier beyond which the osteoblasts cannot form bone. In other words, an osteoblast "sees" a tooth when it "sees" periodontal ligament fibers. Since there are billions of bacteria in the mouth, they easily get into the open tooth socket. Since the bone is unable to fill in the defect of the socket, the newly formed "cavitation" is now infected. Since there is no blood supply to the "cavitation" it is called "ischemic" or "avascular" (without a blood supply). This results in necrosis (tissue death). Hence we call a cavitation an unhealed, chronically infected, avascular, necrotic hole in the bone. The defect acts to an acupuncture meridian the same way a dead tooth (or root canal tooth) acts. It causes an interference field on the meridian which can impair the function and health of other tissues, organs and structures on the meridian. Significantly, the bacteria in the cavitation also produce the same deadly toxins that are produced by the bacteria in root canals (see Root Canals). These toxins are thio-ethers (most toxic organic substance known to man), thio-ethanols, and mercaptans. They have been found in the tumors in women with breast cancer.

How much does it cost to have impacted wisdom teeth removed?

I have 2 horizonical impacted teeth both on bottom, and 1 is coming out on top left and the other right one is impacted tooth that is still fully encased in the jaw's bone... In my home country in Japan, it costs around $30 per a tooth to remove (but not that high med-tec). I am not sure here in U.S WITH insuarance so I'd like to get some ideas here. Is it like over $1,500 for 4 of them?

I'm also wondering about anesthesia, is that for whole body? Gas? Needle? Very painful? I am freaking out... Thanks.

How much does it cost to have impacted wisdom teeth removed?
I had all 4 of mine taken out at once this August. 3 were impacted, 1 was just peaking through the skin a bit. It cost $1600 (I live in the Midwest).

I got the IV anesthesia..did not hurt (the needle) and it was very pleasant. One moment I'm there w/ my eyes closed the next I'm waking up. It is not as scary as it seems, trust me! I was terrified of getting it done, but it was fine.
Reply:it cost me $1,500 and i live in canada they put me to sleep with the gas. The first 3 days suck the third day is the worst after words it gets easy.
Reply:I had all 4 of mines removed last month at a cost of 1400 in the southeast. Only 2 were impactes. I had no insurance.

I am getting 2 impacted wisdom teeth off and 2 other normal teetth off.?
Do not worry, you will be sedated and probably will receive vicodin as a pain killer. The key to this is to take the vicodin before you start hurting, because it more difficult to arrest the pain after it starts hurting. You are going to be fine, do not worry. Explain your anxiety to your dentist prior to going in and he will probably give you benzodiazipine (Valium) before going in for the extraction. I have gone through this and while its not fun, you are going to be OK.
Reply:Don't worry about it, I hate having to go to the dentist too. I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out last year. They will probably put you some local anesthesia (an injection, not to worry either) which will be a bit uncomfortable for like 5 seconds and then it goes away. You won't even feel when your dentist will take the teeth out. Trust me I had 4 taken and not a clue. One of my wisdom teeth was also in an angle so don't worry. I was in the chair for like 30 to 40 minutes at most, it will pass by fast! And that's cause i told the dentist to treat me like I was 5 years old, since I didnt like being there.
Reply:i'm 16 and i just got three wisdom teeth pulled out. don't worry if you ask them they'll probably do a general anesthetic. that is what they gave me. they'll give you pills for the day before and the day of. you don't feel any pain if you stay on the pain killers and take them on schedule. i stopped taking them after four or five days. you can't eat hard food though. it wasn't really bad because i have a samaller mouth and a doctor with big hands.you'll be fine, i'm sure.
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 18. ( they were fully formed, but lying sideways under the gums). The best advice I can give you is to make sure that whoever drives you stops ON THE WAY HOME to get your pain prescriptions filled. My father took me home first, waited until the anesthesia started wearing off and I started hurting, then left to go to the drugstore. By the time he got back I had the worst headache you can imagine. The only way I can describe it is to tell you I have had 6 children, and I prefer that to the headache I had. I had to take several doses of pain med before it began to ease up. I really don't mean to scare you, just to make sure you know to start taking the medicine before the pain gets ahead of you.

I was prescribed Percodan, but that was 26 years ago. I don't think they prescribe that as easily now. Plus there are a lot of new drugs out there. I'm sure whatever they give you will work fine.

God Bless You!

Can dentist's extract impacted wisdom teeth in the UK or do you have to go to hospital?

Am sure dentist's can do it right? my dentist is from the NHS as am not working at the moment, i got a appoitment tommorrow, surely a dentist is trained to extracted impacted teeth or tooth arent they? thanks.

Can dentist's extract impacted wisdom teeth in the UK or do you have to go to hospital?
had mine out in hospital about 10 years ago. top two and bottom two.
Reply:yeah, dentists can do that in their office. although he has to be a licensed surgeon of that field. i forgot what its called. but yeah, he can remove the impacted tooth in his office. ihad mine removed, it only took him like 45 minutes to open it up, remove it and sew it back. but we had to go to a specialist not just a general dentist
Reply:you have to go to a dental hospital which is normally in a hospital as they dont have the resources in a normal dental surgery. you wouldnt have and operation in your doctor surgery would you ?
Reply:you have to be refered to the hospital by your dentist so wheter dentists can do it or not you'll still have to see your dentist
Reply:It depends if you have to undergo GA. If you need GA, you need to go to hospital where it's safer. If you needed to be resuscitated they have the equipment and crash team.
Reply:Depends how bad it is as I had one out last year by my dentist and it was straightforward and didn't need stitching
Reply:Depends on the experience of the dentist and the degree of impaction there.. It is often better to have an Oral Surgeon do the procedure but can be done with sedation not necessarily a general
Reply:hi there i am a dental nurse and a dentist can carry out the extraction if he/she feels confident that they can do it this is usually determined from an xray showing the root shape and positioning and if a lower tooth how close the tooth lies to the nerve. confidence of the dentist would depend on the experience that they have in doing such extractions within a dental surgery this procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic with or without sedation patient and dentist qualification pending. a referral to the hospital would be sent if the dentist feels that it is necessary due to difficulty or if a GA was needed and it is felt to be in the best interest of the patient.

What will my dentist do if I have impacted wisdom teeth and no dental coverage till next year?

I am in a lot of pain. One of my impacted wisdom teeth is trying to erupt. My dental insurance will not cover anything until May of next year.

I am having a sharp, shooting pain in my head and ear- it has been going on for days and is hardly tolerable.

Is there ANYTHING the dentist can do to help me? I am pretty much broke so I can't pay on my own- but I don't think I can wait until May for help with this issue.

What will my dentist do if I have impacted wisdom teeth and no dental coverage till next year?
It looks like you are pretty stuck. They can not do work and not be paid. They won't do work and bill later with a different date beucase that is considered insurance fraud. You might have to find out if they will let you do a pyamnet plan, or go an apply for credit thourgh their office for a dental credit card. Wisdom teeth are painful and can cause pressure and pain that hurts your mouth, your ears and your sinuses. Everything is close together and connected. I am sorry you hurt so much. Try some Tylenol and warm compresses for now and swich with some warm salt water when you think of it as well. I know how you feel, I have been in the same situation! I hope all goes well for you!
Reply:you might just have to suck it up and get them taken out and pay the bill

Reply:You will have (1) of 3 choices.

1. If the tooth is infected, he can give you someanti-biotics to get you by.

2. He may perform the procedure, and offer you a payment plan.

3. Just advise you to take plenty of pain meds.
Reply:find a dentist that will take low monthly payments, phone around. someone who's been in the profession forever and isn't a struggling new dentist.
Reply:talk to them.... i had no money and needed crowns...7 of them...i talked to dds and made deal for 100 a month ...after a few yrs i had new crowns and he got paid
Reply:you can get medications for the condition from the dentist or he could put a dressing on the tooth if it is damaged, you could also check with the local dentral teaching hospital and in many instances you could get your tooth out at the teaching hospital with minimal expense
Reply:Explain your situation to him and see if he will accept payments. If not, find out if you qualify for Medicaid.
Reply:If it's hurting you that bad- and since it's impacted- you should see a dentist right away. Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to problems, but you don't have dental coverage, see if you can find a dental clinic for patients who don't have insurance. My mom works in one, and their prices are reasonable. But see your dentist and see what he/she would reccomend, and ask about clinics where you can go to get the treatment you need.
Reply:See if he will work out a payment plan. You obviously can't wait until May.

You also may want to see if there is a college or university close to yo that has a dental clinic. These places offer services at greatly reduced rates.

Whatever yo do, hurry! An impacted wisdom tooth is nothing to fool around with.
Reply:Sometimes wisdom teeth try to come out, then settle back down. You can try to deal with the pain until you have coverage. This may cause other dental problems such as an abcess or the shifting of your other teeth resulting in a poor cosmetic look. The dentist may be willing to take care of the problem with a down payment and a payment plan. Some dentists also offer what amounts to a dental credit card. You pay interest and minimum monthly payments. Just ask. The worst he or she can do is say no. Also remember that most dental insurances cover only a portion of dental work and only up to a certain dollar amount per year. It might not make that much difference to wait in agony until may Good luck.

How long does it take to recover from removal of impacted wisdom teeth?

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday (monday) and I am hoping that i will be ok for thanksgiving.. my wisdom teeth were fully impacted.... how long should it take to heal

How long does it take to recover from removal of impacted wisdom teeth?
I doubt you will be comfortable eating chewey foods like turkey. soft food will be ok and take small bites that you can chew with only your frontmost molars--without having the food come down on the gums where the wisdom teeth used to be

First, you should call your dentist and ask her/him because it matters whether

--you got 2 or all 4 taken out,

--if there was any sign of infection,

--how hard it was to extract them (sometimes they are impacted insuch a way that it takes much more trauma to the surrounding tissues and stress on the surrounding molars than normal)

and don't be tempted to each hard foods or foods with small bits that can jam in your teeth like popcorn or brittle because if you break the surface of the gums that used to be over your wisdom teeth that area could become infected

so, it'd be better to not take chances and just eat the soft foods
Reply:Sorry, don't think your going to be up to eating a full meal. You are still going to be a bit sore. Good luck
Reply:It took me three or four days to feel normal, but everyone is different. Take your ibuprofen, it will help keep you from swelling. Good luck!
Reply:Depends on how invasive the procedure was, varies from person to person. Still no matter what you'll still won't be able to eat normally until at least a couple weeks pass by.
Reply:Dental Health: Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties. Sometimes these teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when healthy and properly aligned, but more often, they are misaligned and require removal.

Wisdom teeth present potential problems when they are misaligned – they can position themselves horizontally, be angled toward or away from the second molars or be angled inward or outward. Poor alignment of wisdom teeth can crowd or damage adjacent teeth, the jawbone, or nerves. Wisdom teeth that lean toward the second molars make those teeth more vulnerable to decay by entrapping plaque and debris. In addition, wisdom teeth can be entrapped completely within the soft tissue and/or the jawbone or only partially break through or erupt through the gum. Teeth that remain partially or completely entrapped within the soft tissue and /or the jawbone are termed "impacted." Wisdom teeth that only partially erupt allows for an opening for bacteria to enter around the tooth and cause an infection, which results in pain, swelling, jaw stiffness, and general illness. Partially erupted teeth are also more prone to tooth decay and gum disease because their hard-to-reach location and awkward positioning makes brushing and flossing difficult.

How Do I Know if I Have Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth present potential problems when they are misaligned – they can position themselves horizontally, be angled toward or away from the second molars or be angled inward or outward. Ask your dentist about the positioning of your wisdom teeth. He or she may take an X-ray periodically to evaluate for the presence and alignment of your wisdom teeth. Your dentist may also decide to send you to an oral surgeon for further evaluation.

Your dentist or oral surgeon may recommend that your wisdom teeth be extracted even before problems develop. This is done to avoid a more painful or more complicated extraction that might have to be done a few years later. Removal is easier in young people, when the wisdom teeth roots are not yet fully developed and the bone is less dense. In older people, recovery and healing time tend to be longer.

How Is a Wisdom Tooth Removed?

In addition, wisdom teeth can be entrapped completely within the soft tissue and/or the jawbone or only partially break through or erupt through the gum. The relative ease at which your dentist or oral surgeon can extract your wisdom teeth depends on the position of the impacted teeth. Your oral health care provider will be able to give you an idea of what to expect during your pre-extraction examination. A wisdom tooth that is fully erupted through the gum can be extracted as easily as any other tooth. However, a wisdom tooth that is underneath the gums and embedded in the jawbone will require an incision into the gums and then removal of the portion of bone that lies over the tooth. Oftentimes for a tooth in this situation, the tooth will be extracted in small sections rather than removed in one piece to minimize the amount of bone that needs to be removed to get the tooth out.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Before your wisdom tooth is extracted, the tooth and the surrounding tissue will be numbed with a local anesthetic – the same injection with the same medication you would receive to numb a tooth prior to having a cavity filled. In addition to the local anesthetic to numb the pain, you and your dentist or oral surgeon may decide that a sedative is desired to control your anxiety. Sedating medications that could be selected include: nitrous oxide (otherwise known as "laughing gas"), an oral sedative (for example, Valium), or an intravenous sedative (administered via an injection into your veins). If nitrous oxide is given, you will be able to drive yourself home. If any of the other medications is selected, you will need someone to drive you both to and from the appointment in which your tooth will be extracted.

What Does Recovery Involve?

How quickly you heal depends on the degree of difficulty of the extraction (a simple extraction of a fully erupted tooth versus a tooth impacted into the jawbone). In general, here's what to expect.

During the first 24 hours

* Bleeding may occur for several hours after tooth extraction. To control it, position a piece of clean moist gauze over the empty tooth socket and bite down firmly. Apply constant pressure for about 45 minutes. A moistened tea bag is an effective alternative. The tannic acid in tea helps healing blood clots to form (blood clots function similarly to a scab on an open wound). Repeat this process if a small degree of bleeding continues; if heavy bleeding continues to occur, contact your dentist or oral surgeon. Avoid rinsing or spitting for 24 hours after tooth extraction, avoid "sucking" actions (for example, don't drink beverages through straws or smoke) and avoid hot liquids (such as coffee or soup). These activities can dislodge the clot, causing dry socket (see below) to develop.

* Facial swelling in the area where the tooth was extracted typically occurs. To minimize swelling, place a piece of ice, wrapped in a cloth, on that area of your face on a schedule of 10-minutes on, followed by 20-minutes off. Repeat as necessary during this first 24-hour period.

* Pain medications, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) can be taken for minor pain. Your dentist or oral surgeon may prescribe more potent pain relievers, such as narcotics, if necessary.

* Antibiotics that may have been prescribed prior to tooth extraction (to treat any active infection around the wisdom tooth to be extracted) should continue to be taken until the full prescription is gone.

* Foods should be chewed on the side of the mouth opposite the extraction. Avoid hot liquids and alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours. In the case of difficult extractions, consume a soft or liquid diet for the first 24 hours.

* Continue to brush your teeth, but avoid the teeth directly neighboring the extracted tooth during the first 24 hours. On day two, resume the gentle brushing of your teeth. Do not use commercial mouth rinses - these can irritate the extraction site.

After 24 hours

* Facial swelling in the area of the tooth extraction should be treated with heat after the first 24 hours of ice. Apply a moist warm towel to the area on a 20-minute on, 20-minute off schedule. Repeat as necessary.

* Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) after meals and before bed. Do not use commercial mouth rinses.

* Stitches, if used and if not of the self-dissolving type, need to be removed by your oral health care provider in about 1 week. If you do require stitches, ask what type you have been given.

* Watch for signs of dry socket (described below). This condition requires treatment by your oral health care provider.

* Complete healing doesn't occur for a few weeks to a few months following the extraction. However, usually within the first week or two, enough healing has taken place for use of your mouth to be reasonably comfortable in the area of the extraction.

Your dentist will explain what to expect in your specific case.

What Are Potential Complications?

Two of the more important complications include:

* Dry socket. Dry socket is a common complication that occurs when either a blood clot has failed to form in the extracted tooth socket or else the blood clot that did form has been dislodged. Without clot formation, healing will be delayed. When it happens, dry socket typically occurs 3 or 4 days following the extraction and is accompanied by pain (ranging from "dull" to moderate to severe) and a foul mouth odor. Your dentist or oral surgeon will treat the dry socket by placing a medicated dressing in the socket. Dressing will need to be removed and replaced every 24 hours until symptoms subside.

*

Paresthesia. Paresthesia is a less frequently occurring complication. Wisdom teeth entrapped in the jawbone are often close to nerves. Sometimes these nerves can be bruised or damaged during the tooth removal process. The result is a numbness (called a paresthesia) of the tongue, lip or chin that can last a few days, weeks, months or may even be permanent.

How Much Does Wisdom Teeth Extraction Cost?

Simple extraction of a wisdom tooth can cost as little as $99 per tooth. The cost of wisdom teeth that are impacted can cost between $230 and $340 and even more. Because costs vary in different areas of the country, contact your dentist or oral surgeon for their charges. Also check with both your dental insurance carrier and medical insurance provider. One or the other type of insurance may cover a portion of the cost of wisdom teeth removal.

Is 2 days enough recovery time for impacted wisdom teeth removal?

Here is my situation. I am 23 years old and I have 2 weeks left on my insurance before I start a new job. I won't have insurance at my new job for 4 months and my wisdom teeth have been killing me. I know at least 1 is impacted. The soonest I can get in is next Friday (the weekend before my new job). Will that Friday, Saturday, and Sunday be enough recovery time before I start a new job? It's just a web design position, so nothing strenuous.

I will be asleep for the procedure, but I don't know much else till I have my consultation next week.

Is 2 days enough recovery time for impacted wisdom teeth removal?
Seems you have no choice. You have to remove the impacted tooth and the others should also be removed. So if you want your insurance to cover it, you have to do it now. That means you are going to have to "tough it out" at the new job.

Two-three days of recovery should help because of your age, but you will still probably need to be doing salt gargles etc at your new job.

You will more than likely have Rx's for pain killers and antibiotics too help you get through this.

Also note you will probably have to miss some time at your new job for a follow up visit to the dentist. Good luck
Reply:Yes. it should be plenty of time. Get it done
Reply:Yes, it should be pleanty of time to recover. Just follow your dentist's follow ups and you'll be fine.
Reply:you should be fine
Reply:You could still be swollen on monday and maybe even bruised.

I had 2 done while I was awake and wow. It took me a week before I taked right or ate soilds. Mine was under the bone and very difficult to get out. It really just depends on the person on how they will recover.
Reply:I guess it depends on your threshold for pain. I had all four of mine removed, was unable to take the pain med they gave me (it knocked me out) and went back to work the next day. The pain you're feeling already doesn't sound like much fun, at least the pain from having them removed will go away.

Can I get my impacted wisdom teeth removed if I am still nursing my 15 month old daughter?

all four of my wisdom teeth are impacted the bottom 2 are growing in sideways none of them are bothering me lately but I know I need to get them out, But since I am nursing my toddler still and plan on till she is two do I have to wait or can I still get them taken out.

Can I get my impacted wisdom teeth removed if I am still nursing my 15 month old daughter?
Yes you can, the drugs they use can enter breast milk. You may have to not feed for a day only. These drugs stay in the body for only a short time. Pain killers post removal you would have to watch what you take. Explain you are still feeding your child. express for that day if needs be. We operate on breast feeding mothers often.
Reply:isnt it time to wean her now?

they can give laughing gas in the office and its over in 2 hrs...go for it..
Reply:If there is no rush, postpone it for a few more months, but use it also to prepare your daughter to be weaned from breast feeding. At 18 months she will have all her molars already and be quite capable of eating solid food.

Heres an excerpt and Id say the timing will just be right for your own molars to come out. Lol

The academy recommends that babies be breast-fed for six to 12 months. The only acceptable alternative to breast milk is infant formula. Solid foods can be introduced when the baby is 4 to 6 months old, but a baby should drink breast milk or formula, not cow's milk, for a full year.
Reply:Just pump enough to feed her for a couple of days before you have them out. Be sure to pump while you are feeding her the bottles to keep your milk supply up. (And despite what some think or say, I think it is totally cool that you are still nursing)
